“Where Good Food and Good People Meet”
The Dixie Restaurant at Taylors Pointe owned and operated by “Miss Jean” McElrath moved to Taylors Point at the intersection of Wade Hampton Boulevard and Rutherford Road from Poinsett Highway after that restaurant was sold.
“We feature good home recipes that have been in our family for many years,” said Miss Jean, who satisfies the taste buds of bus loads of people from more than 100 miles away who hear about Dixie Restaurant good food and family atmosphere on WGGS, TV Channel 16, located only a couple of blocks from the restaurant.
“Miss Jean has lots of regular customers,” said Billy Rainey, host of Down Home Gospel featured each Saturday night on Chanel 16. Rainey added: “You have got to have some of her homemade banana pudding.”
“Everything we serve is made from scratch,” said Miss Jean. “Nothing is brought in already prepared. We have our own baker and cooks who have been with us for many years. James has been with me for 22 years, Robert 20 years and Roger, my grandson, has been cooking for me most of his life.”
Miss Jean’s biscuits and grits are so good that she serves breakfast for supper each Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
Banquet rooms are available seating up to 100 people.
