Nationally Syndicated Talk Show Host Mike Gallagher spoke to a group of about 600 enthusiastic opponents of open borders and special privileges for illegal aliens as part of the first in a series of forums sponsored by News Radio 1330/950 WORD.
Representatives of the South Carolina Minutemen and Americans Have Had Enough Coalition also participated in the forum following the address by Gallagher, whose program is broadcast on WORD from 10 to 12 a.m. weekdays.
WORD Program Director Bob McLain extended a welcome to the mostly adult audience. Lisa Rollins, Morning Show co-host, provided the invocation, while Russ Cassell, co-host of the Russ and Lisa Morning Show, introduced Gallagher, who a decade earlier had hosted a talk show on WORD radio in Greenville.
In fact, Gallagher met his wife in Greenville and a local couple, Mr. and Mrs. Joey Hudson of Travelers Rest, now handle marketing for the Gallagher radio program.
A statement in the printed program by the WORD staff expressed hope that the appearance of Gallagher would be informative and educational:
“We also hope it will inspire you to ensure that your voice is heard in the Legislative halls of Columbia and Washington. Only through vigilance can we do our part to make sure laws are passed and enforced that will put a halt to illegal immigration.
“The threat posed to our national security is a very real one. We believe events like this will help convince politicians that their jobs are dependent on doing their part to keep America safe and secure from terrorism.”
Gallagher spoke briefly of his recent visit with President Bush in the Oval Office along with four other talk show hosts. He summarized the reaction of the President to his questions regarding illegal immigrants.
“President Doesn’t Get It”
Gallagher said President Bush does not understand the anger and outrage regarding illegal migration that exists across the country. “He is a good man, very smart and engaging,” but “on the subject of illegal immigration, the man just doesn’t get it.”
He concluded: “I feel betrayed. I feel let down. As long as President Bush is in the Oval Office, we are not going to have border security, and we are not going to have a drive to kick illegals out of the country.”
Taking on Bank of America
Bank of America is generating outrage as a result of some of their company policies regarding illegal aliens, and special privileges granted to illegal aliens that are not granted to other customers who are legal American Citizens. Gallagher said he is “taking on” the Bank of America. He wasoutraged after his son called home from New York and reported that he was trying to open a bank account and the Bank of America automated telephone system instructed: “To send money to Mexico, press 5.”
“Don’t tell me that is good for the economy,” Gallagher said. “We are good for the economy,” he concluded.
Five Big Lies
Gallagher discussed in some detail the five big lies liberal Democrats use to discredit opponents of illegal immigration. They apply the philosophy that if you repeat a lie frequently enough many people will begin to believe it.
Big lie number One: “We are anti-immigration.”
Gallagher explained that those concerned about open borders and the flood of illegal aliens are not “anti-immigration,” they are anti-illegal immigration. “There is a difference between illegal and legal,” he insisted.
Big lie number Two: “Illegals just come here to have a better life.”
Gallagher told the tragic story of a drug runner in Texas who killed a policeman with a machine gun in a gun battle where the police were armed with inferior weapons.
“Some people come here to bring drugs, some people come here to kill policemen, and a lot of people want to come here and destroy our country,” Gallagher said.
All illegals are not bringing in drugs and killing people, he said. “Like I say on the radio show. ‘Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims.”
Big lie number Three: “Ille-gals work the jobs Americans don’t want.”
Many illegals are holding jobs American citizens held previously. He said this is clearly not factual in most instances.
Big lie number Four: “Illegals help the economy.”
Gallagher provided statistics regarding the social costs of illegal aliens to American taxpayers and the billions of dollars being sent to Mexico by the illegal aliens.
Big lie number Five: “Being against illegal immigration is racist.”
This is one of the most frustrating liberal lies. It has nothing to do with race. It has to do with obeying existing laws. Race bating is a liberal tactic that has worked for them in the past and they hope to have success with it in this political controversy.
The Guest Panel
Roland Pittman and Patty Stoner, members of the guest panel spoke briefly about the mission and challenges for South Carolina Minutemen. Printed information and membership applications were provided for those seeking additional information or interested in joining the organization.
Roan A. Garcia-Quintana, founder and Director of the Americans Have Had Enough Coalition, addressed the need for grassroots organization and political pressure to educate and motivate elected officials who would like to avoid dealing with the most serious internal problem facing America. If not reversed, the continued flood if illegal aliens will destroy the republic.
Popular local radio personality Russ Cassell, looking well following surgery, and an attack by deadly flesh eating bacteria, took a microphone into the audience, allowing attendees to ask questions of Gallagher before the program concluded.
When the program ended, dozens of attendees lined up to purchase autographed copies of Gallagher’s book, Surrounded by Idiots: Fighting Liberal Lunacy in America with a forward by Sean Hannity.
An equal number surrounded Cassell to inform him they had been praying for him and extending their best wishes for a complete recovery from his ordeal.
