The Greenville County Republican Party Executive Committee elected a secretary, treasurer, second and third vice chairmen, Monday evening, to serve for the next two years.
Samuel Harms was elected chairman and Wendy Nanney first vice chairman by delegates to the Greenville County Republican Convention.
Peggy Payne was reelected as secretary and Linda Gardner was elected treasurer to replace Esther Wagner, who was not seeking reelection. Neither candidate had opposition.
Betty Poe defeated Michael Greene by a vote of 43 to 31 in a heated contest for second vice chairman, and Emanuel Daniel overwhelmed Dan Rawls by a vote of 55 to 17 to become the new third vice chairman of the Greenville County Republican Party. Rawls was on a business trip to Washington, DC and was not present at the meeting.
County Republican Chairman Samuel Harms proposed an election commission be appointed to oversee and certify the results of the Greenville City Republican Primary election set for June 12. The Executive Committee approved the appointment of Brenda Schoolfield, chairman, and members Barbara Taylor, Thomas Butts, Heidi Aiken and Peggy Payne.
Mayor Knox White, the sitting mayor, is being challenged in the Republican Primary by Billy Mitchell. Councilwoman Deb Sofield and textile executive Roger Chastain are competing for a vacant seat on the Commission of Public Works (Greenville Water System.).
