Maj. Rudolf Anderson, Jr., United States Air Force Strategic Air Command, was honored by a memorial service on Memorial Day at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Maj. Anderson was shot down during a special reconnaissance flight over Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis, October 27, 1962.
Local business owner and World War II veteran Roy Gullick was Anderson’s Boy Scout leader in Troop 19 and has overseen the memorial services at the site of Anderson’s grave at Woodlawn Memorial Park for the past 44 years.
Maj. Anderson’s daughter, grandchildren, other relatives and friends attended the memorial service. A wreath was unveiled by Steven Lorys, son-in-law of Maj. Anderson. He was assisted by members of Boy Scouts Troop 19. Other honors were conducted by American Post # 3.
