Senator John McCain made stops at Stax Original on Poinsett Highway in Greenville and the Beacon Drive-in in Spartanburg, Saturday, with South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham. At Stax he was greeted and questioned by several Furman University students.

The former Navy pilot and prisoner of war, now a   Republican presidential candidate, also attended a Greenville Drive ball game Friday night. He was well received by a large crowd at all the events.

McCain was considered the Republican front runner for several months. When the controversy over amnesty for illegal aliens flared with a grass roots telephone and email rebellion, the senator’s popularity, as reflected by opinion polls, dropped drastically.

The Senator from Arizona along with South Carolina’s Sen. Lindsey Graham has been among the strongest supporters of President George W. Bush on immigration and the Iraq War.

McCain has held fast to the position shared by most combat veterans of prior wars, that to notify our enemies of a withdrawal date from Iraq would betray the sacrifices of American troops and embolden the enemy.

Sen. McCain has dropped several members of his campaign staff from the payroll in South Carolina since his campaign donations reportedly dropped off.

Despite the setbacks, Sen. McCain is optimistic and assures his audiences that his campaign is alive and well despite some bumps in the campaign trail.
