History always repeats itself and the current bill, the “Fairness Doctrine,” being, discussed in Congress regarding “free speech” is no exception. Talk radio, Fox News and various newspapers such as The Times Examiner, have always been outspoken regarding our First Amendment right to free speech. To put it another way, they tell the truth.
In Washington, DC, and many state legislatures, the truth is not well-received by elected officials both in the House of Representatives and the Senate. They prefer to lie to get their way. Talk radio has been so effective over the past 25 years that Democrats have decided that this is a violation of the “Fairness Doctrine” because their policies are exposed for what they are.
Thank God, the American people are not stupid, they possess the wisdom to give the Democratic Congress a 14% rating—they are a dismal failure.
In 1798, John Adams was our second President and Thomas Jefferson was our Vice President. During this time, the Federalists were in power in Congress and they passed into law “extreme measures”—the Alien and Sedition Acts—which President Adams signed into law. His signature on these bills, judged by history, proved to be the most reprehensible acts of his presidency.
Thomas Jefferson, probably the greatest political genius in American history and author of the Declaration of Independence, knew that these laws especially the Sedition Act were a violation of the First Amendment to the Bill of Rights (which gives us free speech) and were unconstitutional. The Sedition Act forbid anyone from openly criticizing the President and ran the risk of being fined or sent to prison.
The Alien Acts included a naturalization act, which increased the required period of residence to qualify for citizenship from 5 to 14 years. The Alien Act granted the President the legal right to expel “any foreigner” considered dangerous. Of greater consequence was the Sedition Act, which made any “False, scandalous and malicious writing against the government, Congress or the President, or any attempt to excite against them…the hatred of the good people of the United States, or to stir up sedition,” crimes punishable by fine and imprisonment. This was clearly a violation of free speech by President John Adams and the Federalists. They were terrified of criticism. The real and obvious reason for these laws was to stifle the truth. Nearly all of those who were arrested and convicted under these laws were Republican editors. It is interesting to note that the first conviction under the Sedition Act was Matthew Lyon, a Republican Congressman from Vermont. Lyon was born in Ireland and became a US citizen and fought with George Washington during the American Revolution. He was convicted of sedition because he criticized President John Adams. The Federalist judge and jury found Lyon guilty and sentenced him to four months in prison and a $1,000 fine. This occurred because he had the audacity to criticize John Adams.
Vice President Thomas Jeffer-son, having no wish to be present when President Adams signed into law the Sedition Act, packed his bags, left Washington, DC, and went home to Monticello, VA. Jefferson knew this bill was unconstitutional and violated free speech.
It is amazing how paranoid the Federalists were and Democrats are when in power. The “Fairness Doctrine,” in my opinion, is a rerun of the Sedition Act, which was found to be unconstitutional by violating free speech and the First Amendment to the US Constitution.
The Republican Party has always produced great leaders. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and James Madison wrote the US Constitution—both were Southerners. These documents are the envy of the world.
The Democrats, on the other hand, have given us 45 million abortions, mercy killing, same sex marriage, destruction of the family, disrespect for the American flag and a public school system that produces antisocial students who cannot compete in the work place. What great accomplishments.
Southerners know that the Democratic Party, once a great party, has sold out to the extreme left wing of their party. Who could possibly promote the destruction of our society and have it as the basis of their party platform? It is absolutely absurd.
Divine Providence has always produced great leadership when our country needed it most. Today, we are at a critical juncture regarding the preservation of our once great nation. Many of the candidates for President are, at best, mediocre, who possess no leadership qualities whatsoever. The word of God frightens them because they are doing their will not God’s will. Of course, the mainstream media, ABC, CBS, and NBC promote these “wonderful candidates” and tell us they are the front runners. These networks rarely mention the candidates who could and would effectively lead our nation. I have personally heard Representative Duncan Hunter (CA), Representative Ron Paul (TX), Representative Tom Tancredo (CO), and Governor Mike Huckabee (AR). All of these presidential candidates would make a great President of the United States. They reflect the concerns of 70% of ordinary citizens.
Well, time will tell. The Bible says the harvest is great and the workers are few. Please step forward and become involved in the political process. This is your opportunity to serve your country and save it for future generations.
