L to R: Commissioners Thomas Inman & R. H. Patterson.
Members of the Greenville County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission that serves as a Board of Directors for the Phoenix Center have yet to decide whether they have the authority to support a proposal by Commissioner R. H. Patterson.

During a recent meeting, Patterson proposed that the Commission go on record supporting Greenville County Council’s request that the Greenville County Legislative Delegation take action to urge that court hearings on disputed alcoholic beverage licenses  for Greenville County locations be held in Greenville County, not Columbia.

Some members of the Commission, while stating that they support what Patterson has proposed, have questioned the authority of the commission to take a position on matters relating to alcoholic beverage sales.

The matter will be taken up first by the Commission’s Administrative Committee, chaired by Thomas Inman.

The Board was commissioned by the State of South Carolina to be the lead organization in matters pertaining to alcohol and drug abuse in Greenville County.
