On Friday night, August 17th, Greta Van Susteren conducted a lengthy exclusive interview with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich on the FOX News Network. The discussion, in my view, highlights the need for voters to beware of politicians who are well- informed, yet are conveniently in denial, regarding issues of critical importance to the American people.
During the interview, the former Speaker insisted he had no idea why President George W. Bush has been hesitant to deal with the serious problems of border security and illegal aliens creating a security and crime problem for the government and the American people.
Gingrich announced that he was going to ask President George W. Bush to call a special session of Congress with a specific, narrow agenda to deal with protection of our borders and the large number of criminals who have entered the country illegally.
Gingrich is openly positioning himself for a possible run for the White House in the Republican primary early next year.
Having been out of government for several years, the former Speaker, author and history teacher is assuming the position of an “outsider” and a critic of both the Bush White House and the Democrat Congress. He has listened to the “grass roots” voters and has adopted many positions on issues held by typical conservative voters.
As a longstanding member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), the organization that created the plan for the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) of North America in 2004 that was signed by President Bush and the leaders of Canada and Mexico March 23, 2005, it is virtually impossible that Mr. Gingrich would be ignorant of this major undertaking that is undermining efforts to secure America’s borders.
The CFR Task Force Report titled, “Creating a North American Community,” is available for download from the CFR web site. The report calls for integration of the three independent nations into the North American Union by 2010. By this date, there would be free passage of people and goods across borders and security would be established only on the southern border of Mexico and the northern border of Canada.
Details of the SPP are documented in the current bestseller, The Late Great USA: The Coming Merger with Mexico and Canada, by Jerome R. Corsi, Ph.D.
World Net Daily reports that President Bush is interrupting his summer vacation in Crawford, Texas, this week to attend the third summit meeting of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, held August 20 and 21 in Montebello, Quebec, at the five-star Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello resort. He is joined by Mexico’s new President Felipe Calderon and Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
World Net Daily has reported that The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and state police from Quebec will maintain a 25-kilometer protest-free zone around the resort where the meeting will be held.
If President Bush knows that the SPP calls for free movement of people and goods across the border by 2010, why would he advocate closing the border with Mexico now?
Twenty-one Republicans and one Democrat have signed a letter urging President Bush to back-off his agreement with Canada and Mexico. The letter states their concerns regarding the secretive manner in which SPP is being implemented, contributing to “further weakening of this country’s ability to secure its frontiers” and “further undermine our security and sovereignty.”
I suspect Mr. Gingrich was intentionally misleading the interviewer and the American people with some of his answers.
