The city of Simpsonville has no concern for human life. They ignore even written notice of hazards. The pictures that I have sent to you show a big dead red oak tree at the slides and play area at Alder Park. Would you want to play here? Think about the innocent children playing here not knowing the danger at hand.

On March 29, 2007,1 sent Russell Hawes, the city administrator, an email making him aware of this hazard. He was reminded about the very large dead white pine tree on West Yellow Wood Drive. I had verbally told Mr. Hawes in 2006 about this. I have verbally told other city employees about the trees.

The Public Works Department, which is run by Joe Carter, has employees who cut the grass at the park, put sand in the play area, and have planted bushes at the park. They do not see the danger for the public. This doesn't say much for the leadership and supervision of public works.

The tree on West Yellow Wood Drive has been dead for two years. On a weekly basis, Public Works has a garbage truck, a recycling truck, and a limb debris truck that passes by this dead tree. It is still there. If anyone is driving by or walking by when this tree falls, there will be damage, injury, or death.

Oh, let's not forget the Simpsonville Police. I have seen a police car at the park many times. I would think that they have passed the tree on West Yellow Wood Drive. The police are supposed to look out for the public. The supervision is lacking here also.

Let's not leave Mayor Dennis Waldrop out. In 2005,1 was speaking at City Council meetings about city bullying and concerns about certain city employees. The mayor told me that I could not speak at anymore council meetings. He put a gag on me. I have questioned the violations of 1st Amendment rights but it seems that city hall can do as they "please. It's a shame that there are so many puppets on a string.

I find it sickening that our men and women are losing arms, legs, and their lives to keep us safe in America and the spoiled, bratty, greedy, wasteful, arrogant local governments could care less about the citizens' safety. We have our own Saddams in the United States.

I would encourage the citizens everywhere to make calls or better yet to send a written note so that it is documented when you see a hazard of any kind. Do not take for granted that your local government cares about you. They say a lot but action speaks louder than words.
