The South Carolina Home Educators Association will be hosting a “Homeschool Expo in the Upstate” on Saturday, October 13, 2007, from 8:30am-5:00pm at Marathon Community Church in Powdersville. The Expo will feature Misty Spinelli of Growing Scholars Bookstore in Charlotte, N.C. There will be workshops for new home schoolers, veterans, and support group leaders. In addition to the Growing Scholars vendor booth, there will be other home school related vendors, African-American featured curriculum and information about local points of interest.
With $10 per family pre-registration, each attendee will receive a $10 coupon at the door that can be used at the Growing Scholars booth on that day (Oct 13th). At-the-door cost is $15.00 per family, with no coupon. (And grandparents count as part of the family!)
Misty Spinelli is a homeschool mother of six, ages 12, 10, 8, 4, 2 and newborn. She and her husband Tony own Growing Scholars, two home school supply stores in the Charlotte, NC area. She comes from a long line of educators and was herself a college professor of fine art and graphic design for over 8 years. Misty speaks at regional conferences, support group meetings, writes articles for newsletters and newspapers, and offers info meetings for beginning and potential homeschoolers every month. She is currently serving as the director of the SALT homeschool support group.
Growing Scholars offers a wide variety of excellent reading books and literature, science and history unit studies, handwriting workbooks, computer instruction, science supplies, high school composition workbooks, geography workbooks, and core curriculum (Saxon math, Bob Jones Press, Alpha Omega, Apologia science, etc). Workshops that day will include topics such as “The GRAIN of Your Homeschool,” “Why You Can’t Go Wrong …. with Home-schooling,” and “Real Books Approach to Teaching” all presented by Misty Spinelli.
