Undermining the Troops for Political Gain PDF Print E-mail
Written by Bob Dill, Publisher

There is no other way to explain it. A majority of Democrats and a few Republicans in Congress are undermining the military war effort in Iraq for purely political purposes. They have painted themselves in a corner by predicting defeat and, as others have said, have invested their political future in defeat of US forces in Iraq. In order to save their political aspirations, they must now do whatever they can to contribute to our defeat or abandonment of the battlefield.

Another undeniable truth is that regardless of whether the invasion of Iraq was necessary or wise, we are there, with troops on the ground making great sacrifices. Any talk of leaving the battlefield without achieving victory undermines the morale of our troops because it provides comfort and encouragement to their adversaries.

Democrat candidates for president appear willing to jeopardize the security of the United States and endanger the lives of Americans in order to enhance their chances of winning an election.

Just look at who these people are. They are in large part the leftist protesters of the Vietnam War or their admirers, who undermined our military effort in Southeast Asia, gave the Communist thugs an undeserved and unearned victory in the US Congress and were never held accountable for their betrayal of their country.

A relatively small number of strategically placed leftists and Communist sympathizers in this country were able to convince a large segment of the American people that we were losing the war in Southeast Asia when in fact the American military had soundly defeated the enemy forces.

Believing a lie, the Congress of the United States suspended funding weapons and ammunition for both US and South Vietnamese forces and abandoned Southeast Asia to live under Communist domination. The truth about our departure from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos is now a matter of factual history, but many Americans do not know the truth. In the meantime, the Vietnam War protestors are now serving in Congress and hold other influential positions in government, media and on university campuses. Their influence gave us 4-years of Jimmy Carter and 8-years of Bill Clinton in the White House.

Our country is facing a situation very similar to that faced in Vietnam some 35 years ago. The enemy we face in Iraq and across the globe is very much aware of what won Southeast Asia for the Communists and are counting on it giving them victory over US forces in Iraq and elsewhere through their perceived allies in the US Congress. Presidential candidates relying on support of the radical left are trained in the tactic that worked for them in the past. They would deny it, but they know what they are doing.

The only people who do not understand what is going on are a large segment of the American public that is ignorant of history and misinformed regarding current events. The outcome of the next presidential election will hinge upon how many Americans go to the trouble to seek and find facts that impact the future of their children and grandchildren.

I am convinced that should American forces leave Iraq before achieving victory, out nation and future generations will pay a terrible price and those in the region who have befriended us will be slaughtered by the thousands. The Communists did it in Southeast Asia and this enemy is as vicious if not more so.
