Tree Conservation Workshop Held
The Greenville County Council Tree Policy Advisory Committee and county staff members held a Tree Conservation Workshop in Council chambers at County Square, Wednesday, September 5th, to revise the proposed County Tree Ordinance prior to presenting it to Council for a Second Reading. Another meeting was held Tuesday, September 18.
Officially, the ordinance remains in the Committee on Public Works, Planning and Development, chaired by Jim Burns. The committee was briefed on the status of the ordinance Monday, but no action was taken.
As a result of the public outcry in response to the original 22-page document, it is expected that the revised version will be limited to only new construction that would be triggered by requests for grading permits.
A public hearing will likely be held after the second reading and no further public input will be allowed at Council meetings after the public hearing is held.
Well-organized environmentalists who are represented on both the Council and the Tree Policy Advisory Committee are expected to fill Council chambers with their supporters when the public hearing is held, leaving little space for citizens impacted by the ordinance who do not arrive early.
