Who Can Defeat Hillary? PDF Print E-mail

One of the more frequently asked questions in the country today is: Who can defeat New York Senator Hillary Clinton in either the Democrat primary election or the General Election set for November 2008?

It is inconceivable to most conservative Republicans that the wife of former president Bill Clinton, who was accused of indecent exposure, rape, and other indiscretions in the oval office and was eventually impeached, could be a serious consideration for President of these United States. The fact remains that a sizeable number of Americans identify with and even admire Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is a repackaged model that is very different from the Mrs. Clinton of the Vietnam War era and even as First lady of Arkansas and the United States. She no longer loathes military personnel. Now she only loathes their Commander-in-Chief, their generals, their mission and the people they are fighting to defend, but she supports the troops. Figure that?

It is quite apparent that Hillary Clinton will say and do just about anything she thinks will help get her elected. While many Democrats fear her, they also are afraid to openly oppose her. They quietly whisper that the “Arkansas Mafia” is alive and well and make reference to the bodies strewn from the back roads of Arkansas to the public parks of the District of Columbia when her husband held the reigns of power.

Her only serious Democrat challenges come from Senators Obama and Biden. Obama and Clinton tend to appeal to the same left-wing radicals and those who vote only on racial issues and social programs. Sen. Biden at least reaches into the world of reality. He is very pro-labor union and understands that we cannot abandon and walk away from Iraq without creating a blood bath and a disaster for the United States and countries in the region.

The liberal media would have us believe that former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani would have the best chance of any Republican candidate to defeat Hillary. Chuck Baldwin has compiled a persuasive argument that Rudy Giuliani as President of the United States, would be a “threat to freedom, constitutional government, the rule of law, traditional morality, and to national sovereignty and independence.” He concludes that Giuliani would be “everyone’s worst nightmare.” That doesn’t sound like an acceptable alternative to Hillary from a conservative point of view.

Sen. McCain is still in the race, but has weakened greatly by taking a strong position on the so-called “amnesty bill” to deal with illegal aliens. Time will tell if that damage can be repaired before the primaries begin.

Mitt Romney looks good and says all the right things to conservative Republicans and is well-financed. He is obviously a very intelligent and experienced candidate. His past political positions on key issues and his Mormon affiliation continue to pull him down in the eyes of many conservative voters.

Fred Thompson, the former senator from Tennessee and the popular actor, has a relatively conservative track record on issues important to many Republicans. He sounds decisive in his public comments on dealing with the war in Iraq and on most domestic issues. He is, however, plagued by his long-time membership in the CFR (Council on Foreign Relations), the principal Non-Government Organization advocate for a North American Union patterned after the European Union and ultimately a global government.

Several Republican candidates have not caught on for one reason for another. Duncan Hunter or Sam Brownback would make great alternatives to Hillary, but they have not caught-on with the public for various reasons that have more to do with campaign staff than quality of the candidate. Tom Tancredo is a great man that has been labeled as a one-issue candidate.

That leaves Mike Huckabee, the Baptist preacher former governor of Arkansas. Huckabee can communicate and has a consistent conservative record on most issues. In the final analysis, Republican conservatives would probably be well-served by supporting a man who has moral and ethical courage, rather than someone who lacks those qualities and makes promises that either cannot or will not be kept.
