Non-Spouse killed 33 of 50 Victims
Attorney General Henry McMaster led participants through the annual Silent Witness Domestic Violence ceremony October 1 on the South steps of the State House in Columbia.
McMaster called the names of 40 women and 10 men from across the state that lost their lives in 2006 as the result of domestic violence.
Domestic violence survivors, officials and victims’ advocates made special remarks to highlight the problem of violence against women.
Two Greenville County residents were killed in incidents classified as domestic violence. Frank Brown, age 54, was allegedly killed by his wife. Angela Workman, age 27, was allegedly murdered “by a former boyfriend.”
It is significant to note that a spouse killed only 17 of the 50 victims. The other 33 victims were killed by individuals described as a former cohabitant, live-in boyfriend, father of her daughter, former boyfriend, estranged husband, girlfriend, ex-boyfriend, common law husband, father of one of her children, one with which she had a child in common, common law wife, and former girlfriend and roommate.
