Dear Sen. Alexander,
This morning I received a copy of S856 at our monthly meeting of Americans for Constitutional Government.
I find that both Sen. Martin and you are sponsors of this bill, which, astonishingly would open both our state and federal Consitutons up to attack against any provision in both: regardless of the language of this Convention. We both know that far too many congressmen at the federal level view our existing Constitution as a "living, breathing Constitution that is subject to change with the changing times." They would be prone to using this proposed Constitutional Convention to accomplish the destruction of our existing "Law of the Land" Costitution. I am astonished that since you have sworn an oath before God to uphold and defend and protect the Consttution of the State of South Carolina, and the Constitution of the United States that you have gone on record to sponsor S856 which has the potential of destroying both.
Secondly, going the route of a Constitutional Convention is totally unnecessary. Going through the amendment process of the existng Constitutions, you have every freedom to write the desired language of protection against the illegal immigration scourge. In fact, many towns have already written into the laws of their towns language to stop the invasion into their towns.
In fact S392, which the Senate has already passed and been sent to the legislature does precisely that. Why then have you felt the need to go the route of a Constitutional Convention , which relieves the states and the federal government from doing anything at all about this problem that is desroying our communities both ecoomically and culturally. Many astute men understand that the Constitutional Convention Amendment process on the illegal immigraion problem will hang out there for years accomplishing nothing, while relieving you and our other represetatives from doing anything at all.
I respectfully request that you explain to me this action on your part as my representative. This is NOT WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN ELECTED TO DO IN THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
