Filing for the District 20 Greenville County Council seat vacated by Scott Case opens January 19, 2007, and will close at noon on January 29th.
Party primary elections are set for March 20 with runoffs, if necessary, scheduled for April 3rd and the special General Election to fill the vacant council seat is set for May 8, 2007.
Case challenged and defeated incumbent Greenville County Auditor Ed Haskins in a Republican primary last summer and won the seat over a Democratic opponent in the November 2006 General Election.
Haskins unexpectedly died in office prior to the end of his current term that concludes June 30, 2007.
Last week, Governor Mark Sanford appointed Case to fill the 6 months remaining on the unexpired Haskins term.
Case had won election to another 4-year term on Greenville County Council two years ago and had two years remaining.
The candidate elected to replace Case will carry out the remaining 21 months of his term before being required to run again.
Case was given the oath of office as auditor by Judge Charles B. Simmons, Jr., Master in Equity for Greenville on the evening of January 2nd, 2007, with members of his family present and reported for duty as auditor the next morning.
