Charity Victory Yields $121,500 and New BMW for First Time Winner
David Mathis holds the crystal trophy he won at the BMW Charity Pro-Am Sunday. North Carolina native David Mathis won the BMW Charity Pro-Am Sunday, shooting a three-under par 68, and received a check for $121,500 and keys to a shiny black BMW X5.
The Thornblade Charity event was the first win for Mathis in the 34 year-old golfer’s 11-years as a pro. He scored a three-shot victory over Roger Tambellini to take the huge crystal trophy on a blustery Sunday afternoon when the raindrops held off until after play had ended.
Mathis was rewarded with a hug by his greatest fan and morale builder, his wife Chastity. David and Chastity have been married only two years having met in church in Raleigh, North Carolina.
An estimated record crowd of 50,000 attended the eighth annual BMW Charity Pro-Am at Thornblade, that was supported by hundreds of volunteers from local organizations.
