The cool, late summer afternoon was perfect for celebration of Constitution Day at Heritage Park in Simpsonville on Saturday.

In addition to an informative address by Fourth District Congressman Trey Gowdy that included an update on the NLRB’s unconstitutional power grab in support of union bosses, there were patriotic reenactments, music and an opportunity for youngsters and adults alike to become more informed about the Constitution of the United States, especially the 27 Amendments to the Constitution.

On Wednesday, September 14, 2011, Rep Gowdy introduced the National Labor Relations Reorganization Act. This bill seeks to eliminate the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and allow the Department of Justice and Department of Labor to oversee the functions and responsibilities previously delegated to the NLRB in the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).

Rep. Gowdy explained the need for the new action by Congress despite the fact that the U. S. House of Representatives has already passed a bill introduced by Rep. Scott and co-sponsored by Gowdy and other members of the South Carolina Delegation, that would protect jobs from government interference.

The Protecting Jobs from Government Interference Act was passed by the House on Wednesday by a vote of 238-186.

“The National Labor Relations Board has become a sycophant for labor unions and has lost all pretense of objectivity,” said Rep. Gowdy. “The NLRB has outlived its usefulness and needs to be dissolved. The Department of Justice oversees a wide variety of civil, criminal and administrative issues including anti-trust, voting rights, and major mergers and acquisitions; the DOJ can surely handle the disputes between employers and employees and claims of unfair labor practices and do so without the bias and partisanship endemic in the NLRB.”
