The book published in 1887 provides detailed information of the spiritual aspects of the War Between the States from letters, memoirs, and interviews of Confederate soldiers and preachers. Jones hoped that the book, several years in the making, would bring people to Christ and encourage Christians in their daily walk. Chaplain Evans writes for the Confederate Veteran magazine and and authors a message in each monthly Sixteenth Regiment newsletter.

Sons of Confederate Veterans Chaplain in Chief Mark Evans was the guest speaker for the Sixteenth Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers, SCV November dinner meeting. Chaplain Evans also serves as chaplain for the Sixteenth Regiment and is pastor of Hope Presbyterian Church in Greenville. His topic was “Thanksgiving.”
