“Harvey, It’s a Wonderful Life,” Said the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance |

The Jimmy Stewart Museum in Indiana, Pennsylvania. As I left the home of one celebrity, I made my way toward
the birthplace of another. With Punxsutawney Phil’s home atop Gobbler’s
Knob in my rearview mirror, my thoughts began to center in on a man who
was to become not just a Hollywood star, but truly a giant of the big
screen.
Although he was born in Pennsylvania, I had to travel all the way to
Indiana in order to visit his birthplace. Sound confusing? The Indiana
of which I am speaking is not the state, but rather the small city of
Indiana, Pennsylvania, which is located about 25 miles south of
Punxsutawney.

Council Chairman Herman G. “Butch” Kirven and Greenville County’s
reorganized planning department launched their comprehensive planning
initiative Thursday evening at the Carolina First Center while most of
the county’s citizens were uninterested and busy with other things.
Many were glued to a radio or television set regurgitating the sexual
escapades of the Governor of New York and his well-paid prostitutes and
expressing sympathy for his overwhelmed wife, the perceived victim of
the Governor’s folly.

Big Corn and Ethanol Hoax |
|
Written by Walter Williams

One of the many mandates of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 calls for
oil companies to increase the amount of ethanol mixed with gasoline.
President Bush said, during his 2006 State of the Union address,
"America is addicted to oil, which is often imported from unstable
parts of the world." Let's look at some of the "wonders" of ethanol as
a replacement for gasoline.
Ethanol contains water that distillation cannot remove. As such, it
can cause major damage to automobile engines not specifically designed
to burn ethanol. The water content of ethanol also risks pipeline
corrosion and thus must be shipped by truck, rail car or barge. These
shipping methods are far more expensive than pipelines.

What's Happened to Teaching History? |

A survey of British under-age-twenty kids recently reported that
more than a fifth of them believe Winston Churchill, Richard the
Lionheart and Florence Nightingale were fictional characters, but that
Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes and King Arthur were real people.
We hope American students are more knowledgeable, but evidence is
not reassuring. They scored an F, or just 54 percent, in a new survey
by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute of 14,000 freshmen at 50 U.S.
colleges and universities.

Four Chaplains Gave Up Own Lives to Save Others |

Fifth in series of 14 articles
Very likely most readers of The Times Examiner are acquainted with
the familiar scripture: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man
lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13.
That verse is illustrated no better than to note the lives of four
World War II chaplains who made the ultimate sacrifice to save others
as a stricken ship went down in the cold waters of the North Atlantic
on February 3, 1943.

A series of public meetings are scheduled for Greenville County over
the next several weeks to solidify a far-reaching comprehensive plan
for the future of the growing County. Citizens interested in retaining
honest representative government need to be aware of a proven
psychological technique that has and will continue to be used by
special interests and public officials to deceive, propagandize and
control uninformed citizens.

Four children including two brothers were killed, and 12 others were
hospitalized with injuries, in Minnesota last week when a van
reportedly ignored a stop sign and barreled into a school bus. The
driver of the van, who did not speak English or have a valid driver's
license, was charged with homicide.
Authorities described the driver as an illegal alien using a phony
name. She had pled guilty in 2006 for driving without a license.

South Carolina has a decision to make. So does Montana, New
Hampshire, and Maine. Those are the four states that have passed
legislation declining to participate in the Real ID Act of 2005 and
have not requested extensions from the Department of Homeland Security.

California Shows What Liberals Will Do With Unlimited Power |

California takes a lot of heat for being the center of what some call
the “Left Coast.” I want to be clear at the outset that there are good
people in California who are very frustrated with the inexorable
leftward march of the state’s politicians. California is often referred
to by conservatives as the “land of fruits and nuts” and there are
certainly plenty of both to go around in the golden state but, again,
most Californians defy the Leftist label by living out lives that
exhibit a love for God, family, and country.

GCRWC President Geri Warren, WORD Radio personality Bob McLain and Vice President Kathy Davis Is the Reagan era over? NewsRadio WORD’s Bob McLain asked Greenville County Republican Women at the Poinsett Club, Feb. 28.
McLain was quoting former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who said,
“It’s time to redefine the nature of the Republican Party in response
to what the country needs.”
McLain asked: “Is Newt Gingrich right, and is the Reagan era over?”
He said that conservative philosophy itself is not antiquated and that
Reagan brought a sunny optimism to conservatism, the bright, shining
city on a hill that exemplified all that is good about America.

“See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil” Part I |
|
Written by Steven Yates
|
|
Mar 05, 2008 at 12:00 AM |
|
The other morning I read an article online that brought me up short. I was almost late arriving on campus because of it.
The article was entitled “See No Evil,” by Michael Cogswell, and it
appeared on the Online Journal commentary site—its ideological
orientation is best described as left-of-center populist.
Cogswell’s topic is writing itself, its various purposes and its
limits. His first paragraph: “I recently had a conversation with a
person I’ll just call ‘a successful writer,’ and when I mentioned an
idea that he classified as ‘conspiracy theory’ he said this: ‘The
trouble with conspiracy theories is that they really take a toll on
readership. Many people write you off as a conspiracy nut and the
result is that you don’t get to have your voice in the mainstream
dialogue.’”

Adrian Marks Rescued 56 Survivors of USS Indianapolis |

Fourth in a series of 14 articles
Sitting at the controls of his trusty PBY and flying near the choppy
waters of the Pacific, Navy Lieutenant Adrian Marks could hardly
believe his eyes. Below him he could clearly see craven, despairing
faces of men adrift in the Pacific Ocean. Who were they? What were they
doing there? Hope for them appeared almost gone.
Only a few hours earlier that day Marks had taken off from his base
at Peleiu, following receipt of a scout plane’s report that men were in
the water 300 miles up north. His orders were specific: fly up, take a
look, drop supplies, and return home. He was forbidden to land his
plane unless the waters were calm. The great ocean was definitely not
friendly this day.

The New Age in Party Politics |

Oprah and Friends Riding New Age Tidal Wave to Wealth and Power
Barrack Obama may not be the Antichrist, but he is seen as a New Age spiritual leader by many New Agers.
His connection with Oprah Winfrey is clearly spiritual as well as
financial and political. For Christians familiar with the New Age, and
especially those who are former New Agers, it is quite apparent. It is
the New Age movement that is giving Obama his bounce across the nation.
The national media, even Fox News, has picked up on it, but they
seem not to have a clue as to the real significance of this phenomenon.
