No one knows for sure when it happened but sometime over the last forty years or so the word “pursuit” was dropped from the Declaration of Independence and the words “life” and “liberty” migrated from the unalienable to the alienable category. These words survived the first one-hundred and ninety years or so but somehow their true meanings were lost during the turbulent decade of the 60’s.

Series to Begin in Early January 2008
 Elbert L. Watson The Times Examiner will begin publishing a series of articles saluting veterans of World War II in early January 2008. The series by professional historian and speaker Elbert L. Watson will be taken from his forthcoming book to be published in the spring of 2008 titled “Epic Moments of World War II.”
The Times Examiner is privileged to be chosen to publish this series by Mr. Watson that honors the patriotic service of Americans who made unbelievable sacrifices and accomplished virtually the impossible to ensure freedom for their families and neighbors and a lifestyle never before achieved that has lasted for more than 60 years.
Watson was author of the interesting article on the passing of his friend Paul Tibbets, the pilot that dropped the first atomic bomb on Japan and brought an abrupt ending to World War II in the Pacific. The article featured in The Times Examiner, November 7, 2007 edition.

Gregory Allen, USAF posted the colors. Adam Burgess, Minister to Students and US Army veteran, led the pledges and gave an inspiring personal testimony of his experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan. The congregation joined in singing "The National Anthem," "America the Beautiful," and "America."

The comprehensive tree ordinance that advocates claimed was needed to protect Greenville County trees from destruction by uncaring developers went down to defeat Tuesday, November 20th with a tie-vote by 12 members of Greenville County Council.

There is a lot of excitement in the studios of WGGS – TV Channel 16 on Rutherford Road in Taylors, South Carolina.
special program was held last Wednesday announcing that the television station founded by the Rev. Dr. Jimmy and Joanne Thompson 35 years ago has converted to digital technology. WGGS has been a pioneer in Christian broadcasting and has now added two new stations with different programming.

 Grave Creek Mound in Moundsville, West Virginia. After a foggy ride north on West Virginia Route 2, which hugs the Ohio River, and after passing through a number of small burgs, I finally made it to my first destination of the day - Moundsville. More specifically, Grave Creek Mound.
First, I want to say that it struck me as a big coincidence that there is a huge Indian mound in a town that just happens to bear the name “Moundsville.” I’m still scratching my head on that one.

 Northwest Middle School Assistant The eighth grade students at Northwest Middle School in Greenville County presented a certificate to each military veteran attending their Veterans Day program. The printed document stated: “The 8th grade students at Northwest Middle School would like to recognize the sacrifices you have made so that we may enjoy the freedoms and opportunities that are available to us today. We thank you.”
Assistant Principal Elaine Hitch was in charge of the program that featured music by the Northwest Middle School Band and lunch for attending veterans.
U. S. Marshall Johnny Mack Brown was the guest speaker at the event that is hosted each year by the school to honor local military veterans.

Daniel Webster is regarded as perhaps America's most notable jurist. Webster said, "Hold on, my friends, to the Constitution and to the Republic for which it stands. Miracles do not cluster, and what has happened once in 6000 years may not happen again.  The Sons of the American Revolution / Veterans Service Corps of South Carolina Joint Color Guard at the Bi-Lo Center. A record number of events associated with the Veterans Day holiday were held in Greenville County over the weekend.
One of the earliest events was held at Northwest Middle School, Friday morning, with a number of World War II Veterans guests of honor and US Marshall Johnny Mack Brown featured guest speaker. Marshall Brown, retired Greenville County Sheriff, talked about the transition of Armistice Day to Veterans Day.

Council Delays Vote on Tree Ordinance |

Time Allowed for Public Hearing Inadequate
A slim majority of Greenville County Council voted to delay a second reading vote on the proposed tree ordinance until November 20, supposedly to allow time for more needed changes. The delay was proposed by Councilman Fred Payne who represents the rural lower end of Greenville County.
