The Greenville County Council Tree Policy Advisory Committee and county staff members held a Tree Conservation Workshop in Council chambers at County Square, Wednesday, September 5th, to revise the proposed County Tree Ordinance prior to presenting it to Council for a Second Reading. Another meeting was held Tuesday, September 18.

Sixteen Million Dollar Project to Open in 2008
 Children approach the big apple with caution during the Children’s Museum event. A large group of public officials, donors and parents with children gathered on the grounds of the former Greenville County Library recently to celebrate raising $11 million needed to begin construction of the planned Children’s Museum in downtown Greenville. During the event, it was announced that an additional $5 million will be needed to complete the project by late 2008.

There is no other way to explain it. A majority of Democrats and a few Republicans in Congress are undermining the military war effort in Iraq for purely political purposes. They have painted themselves in a corner by predicting defeat and, as others have said, have invested their political future in defeat of US forces in Iraq. In order to save their political aspirations, they must now do whatever they can to contribute to our defeat or abandonment of the battlefield.

In recent weeks the issue of Mexican trucks on U.S. highways has drawn increasing attention. Even The Greenville News has had to cover it. It was the basis for a recent lawsuit filed by five groups, including the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. The Mexican Truck Demonstration Project, as it is called, is to be administered through the U.S. Department of Transportation.

 Missionary Johnny Todd “Johnny Todd was a faithful and hard-working missionary, whose ministry in Africa touched thousands of souls and helped hundreds to find new life in Christ,” stated Dr. Melvin Aiken, Pastor of the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville.
A special memorial service will be held on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the church in honor of Todd, a veteran missionary who served in Ghana and Ivory Coast in West Africa for 31 years, who died in an automobile accident in Ghana last month.

Ninety-Nine Deceased Members Honored
 Chaplain Dick Granger of the 812th Ordinance Base Depot Company Buddy Club reads the names of 99 deceased members as Mrs. Sara Granger and Mrs. Irma Thrailkill held candles during the somber candlelight ceremony at the Hyatt attended by 5 of the surviving members of the famous World War II Company recruited in Greenville that originally numbered 111. A group of patriotic men who volunteered for military service in Greenville, South Carolina, during the early days of World War II were formed into the 812th Ordinance Base Depot Company at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, trained on the Santa Anita Race Track in California and Operated an ammunition depot in the Utah desert before they were transported to England by ship. In England, they operated the largest equipment depot in the world, supporting the Normandy Invasion with weapons and vehicles for the D-Day landing.
