Two of the candidates were in Washington, DC, and did not attend, however, Lieutenant Governor Andre’ Bauer, Representative Nikki Haley and Attorney General Henry McMaster were present and addressed the guests briefly. Congressman Gresham Barrett was in Washington to vote against the PelosiCare bill that passed the House late Saturday night with a party line vote plus one Republican who won a seat in a heavily Democratic District with a convicted felon Democrat opponent who allegedly stored bribes in his freezer that were eventually discovered by investigators. State Senator Larry Grooms was in the nation’s capitol visiting members of Congress and urging them to vote against the PelosiCare bill. The purpose of the reception was to provide an opportunity for citizens to meet candidates for governor face to face and to discuss important issues and challenges facing the next governor of the Palmetto State. Proceeds of the event went to the Greenville County Republican Party.
