The American public has been inundated with global warming propaganda by the media for years, while millions of their tax dollars have been wasted studying something that doesn’t exist.  The arrogance of man shows as many scientists, politicians and the media have attempted to make us feel guilty about emitting too much carbon dioxide and heating up the planet.  They actually believe that man is so powerful as to exert that much influence over global weather.

The Bible-believing Christian should immediately be skeptical when their “evidence” of global warming is based upon the same theoretical geological chronologies which are also needed to support evolution.  But beyond that, there are numerous secular scientists who do not subscribe to the global warming theory.  Since the cracks in their armor are showing as the earth now cools, they are moving away from the term “global warming” to “climate change.”  Now their refrain is, “Somehow (we just haven’t figured it out yet) your activities and emission of carbon dioxide is causing the earth to cool.  We know you useless eaters are messing up the planet for us elites.  We just need more of your tax dollars to prove how you are ruining our lives.”  (Think Owl Gore with his $13,000/month power bill.)

Their arrogance, typical of man since Eden, has already been confronted by God, for example, when He questioned Job (38:22): “Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail” and (v. 29) “Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?”

The Bible says in several places that God sits in heaven and laughs at evil men (e.g. Psalms 2:4; 37:13; 59:8), so it would seem likely that He is laughing at these arrogant elites.  Perhaps we ought to further consider the possibility that beyond laughing, God might also send a period of severe cooling, saying, “OK, you believe in global warming?  I’ll make you wish you had some!”  Of course, we don’t know what God is thinking, but we do know that the true evidence indicates that we could be headed for another period of severe cooling, perhaps even another Ice Age.  And consequently, since Proverbs 27:12 says “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished,” Christians should see how they have been lied to and if trouble lies ahead, we should prepare for it.

Let’s now examine some of the evidence that we are entering a period of global cooling.  First, the earth’s temperature peaked in 1998 according to data collected by satellites since the technique became available in the late seventies.  It appears now that the earth’s temperature is more closely correlated with sunspots, which have been observed since the late 1600s.  According to the theories espoused by Khabibullo Abdusamatov, chief of the Space Exploration Department of the Central Astronomical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences, supervisor of the Astrometria project of the Russian part of the International Space Station, and Doctor of Physical Sciences, the sun has an 11-, 80- and 200-year cycle.  He postulates that the latter is much more powerful and that the earth is headed for long-term cooling.  “The whole world has recognized the global warming theory, which pictures catastrophic situations in the future. I do not march in step with the world at this point,” he stated in an interview with the Russian newspaper Pravda (when U.S. citizens are forced to get the truth from Pravda that gives some idea of how leftist the American media has become).

“Global warming results not from the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, but from an unusually high level of solar radiation and a lengthy - almost throughout the last century - growth in its intensity,” Abdusamatov said in a 2007 interview with RIA Novosti.  “It is no secret that when they go up, temperatures in the world’s oceans trigger the emission of large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. So the common view that man’s industrial activity is a deciding factor in global warming has emerged from a misinterpretation of cause and effect relations.”

He further refuted global warming theory by saying, “Ascribing ‘greenhouse’ effect properties to the Earth’s atmosphere is not scientifically substantiated. Heated greenhouse gases, which become lighter as a result of expansion, ascend to the atmosphere only to give the absorbed heat away.”  He said that global ocean temperatures are declining, a surprise to scientists, which he says results from a peak in solar radiation and consequent decline in global temperatures.

Abdusamatov added, “There is no need for the Kyoto Protocol now, and it does not have to come into force until at least a hundred years from now - a global freeze will come about regardless of whether or not industrialized countries put a cap on their greenhouse gas emissions.”

A year later, Abdusamatov told the same newspaper that while atmospheric carbon dioxide had increased more than 4% the last decade, global warming had practically stopped.  If the theory was correct, global temperatures should have risen by at least another 0.1 degree Celsius.  He thinks that by the mid-21st century, we will be in another Ice Age similar to the Maunder Minimum between 1645-1715, when there were only 50 sunspots, as opposed to the normal 40-50,000 that should have been observed in that period.  He predicts severe economic, social and demographic consequences from this cooling, which will reduce growing seasons and food supplies.

Other scientists have similar views, though you won’t read this in the mainstream media.  For example, former NASA consultant John Casey, Director of the Space and Science Research Center, said in a 2008 paper: “[I]t can be predicted that the next solar minimum may start within the next 3-14 years, and last 2-3 solar cycles or approximately 22-33 years…It is estimated that there will be a global temperature drop on average between 1.0 and 1.5 degrees C, if not lower…This forecast next solar minimum will likely be accompanied by the coldest period globally for the past 200 years and, as such, has the potential to result in world-wide, agricultural, social, and economic disruption.”  Similarly, Dr. Tim Patterson of the Dept. of Earth Sciences, Carleton University in Canada, was quoted in 2007 in the Calgary Times as saying that this next Ice Age would basically shut down grain production in Canada.

Contrary to the agenda-driven global warming advocates, scientific adherents to the sunspot theory generally seem to simply point out that the correlation between sunspots and earth temperatures is the best fit of the data, and seem less dogmatic about the reasons.  One suggested possibility, however, besides the obvious temperature influence of more or less solar radiation, is that when solar output diminishes, cosmic radiation increases which leads to more cloud formation, which further intensifies cooling.  At this point all we can do for certain is record the data and make historical comparisons.  However, an international panel of scientists, led by NOAA and sponsored by NASA, did release their prediction in late May that the next solar cycle would be the weakest since 1928, which suggests cooler temperatures ahead.

Record snow has recently fallen in many parts of the northern U.S., and while we don’t know the future, perhaps in light of the above it would be prudent for us to ignore the global warming propaganda and instead prepare for rough winters.  If local history is our guide, then we should recall the Snow Campaign of December 23, 1775, when it snowed up to 24" for thirty hours on Col. Richard Richardson and his men in southern Greenville County.  More recently, in mid-December of 2005 the Upstate experienced a terrible ice storm when over 300,000 residents lost power for a week.  Given environmental anxiety about pruning limbs around powerlines, if we receive more colder weather this could mean more frequent and severe ice storms, with longer power outages.  Imagine the effect upon Greenville of a modern-day Snow Campaign storm.  It would perhaps be wise to reject un-Biblical, environmental hysteria and instead store food and other necessities for survival, particularly if colder weather is indeed a long-term trend.  Extreme cold combined with a collapsing economy and lengthy Depression could also lead to serious social disruptions.  Catastrophes such as Katrina have proven that the government cannot take care of the public in a crisis, while we have a Biblical mandate to take care of our families.  We should fear God, not global warming.
