Extraordinary Measures: Voters Tackle 155 Issues Nov. 6

Published: 05 November 2018

Congress is important, but it’s not the only thing at stake next Tuesday! On November 6th, voters have the chance to cut out the middleman on key policies like abortion, health care, gender-free bathrooms, gambling, marijuana, and so much more. By Tuesday night, Americans will have weighed in on 155 ballot measures – directly deciding issues that, in at least three states, could save thousands of lives.

Instead of turning the questions over to legislators, voters in Alabama, West Virginia, and Oregon will be the final say on taxpayer-funded abortion, post-Roe v. Wade policy, and the rights of unborn children. As Michael New points out, these opportunities don’t come along every day. “Since the Roe v. Wade decision, pro-life activists have made relatively little use of direct democracy. The costs of qualifying a proposal for the ballot and running an effective campaign has discouraged many state and local pro-life groups from using the initiative process.”

Powerful Legislative Chairman Profits from State-Funded Groups

As chairman of the S.C. House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Brian White exerts considerable control over the multibillion-dollar state budget that affects the lives of all 5 million South Carolinians.

And his influence extends far beyond being the House’s chief writer and overseer of the state budget. As the Ways and Means chairman, for example, he sits on and appoints half of the 10-member legislative Joint Bond Review Committee, which recommends large state building projects and the issuance of millions of dollars in taxpayer-backed bonds.

His chairmanship also guarantees him one of five seats on the State Fiscal Accountability Authority, which, besides approving JBRC actions, has jurisdiction over important executive branch functions, such as overseeing liability insurance claims against and major contracts issued by state agencies.

“For some time I have been disturbed by the way the CIA has been diverted from its original assignment. It has become an operational and at times a policy-making arm of the government.” –Harry S. Truman

President Harry S. Truman said of the Central Intelligence Agency that he would have never have agreed to the formulation of the CIA back in 1947, if he had known it would become the American Gestapo.

Just think of this, he compared the CIA to the American Gestapo (Hitler’s SS).

The Gestapo was a secret state police of Nazi Germany. They were given authority to investigate cases of their definition of treason, espionage, sabotage and criminal attacks on the Nazi Party and Germany, which history teaches us were self-inflicted.

Imagine living in a country where taking a drink of water could lead to your execution. That was the real-life nightmare of Asia Bibi, a Christian mother in Pakistan who, on a hot day in 2009, went in search of water on the farm where she worked. The other women refused to drink from the container, because Bibi isn't Muslim. That started an argument, and farmworkers insisted later that Bibi had made derogatory comments about Mohammed. They accused her of one of the worst crimes possible -- blasphemy -- and she was tried, convicted, and sentenced to death.
