Years Later, State Lawmaker Owes Tens of Thousands in Ethics Fines
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
As of 2015, state Rep. Cezar McKnight owed a total of $60,190 in civil fines to the state Senate Ethics Committee after being publicly reprimanded for campaign reporting violations when he was a Senate candidate.
To date, only $1,039.12 of his debt has been collected, according to committee records.
In a recent interview with The Nerve, McKnight, D-Williamsburg, an attorney who has been a House member since 2014, said he doesn’t know exactly how much he still owes.
“I’m working on trying to find a way to get this resolved because I think it’s unfair,” he said. “I’m actively trying to get redress of my grievances.”
Canada Goes Tow to Tow with Truckers
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
They blasted their horns and sang "O Canada!" Some of the protestors linked arms as Ottawa police moved through the 300 semis and campers, arresting people along the way. Others locked themselves in their cars or defiantly rolled canisters of diesel down the blockade. But that was the extent of the "backlash." When officers started cracking down on the Freedom Convoy Friday morning, there were no Molotov cocktails. The truckers didn't torch government buildings or throw fireworks at mounted police. Ever since the demonstration started, they've been composed, peaceful. And the American Left can't stand it.
South of the Canadian border, if it's not on fire -- it's not a protest. That's what Democrats and their anarchist friends have taught us since George Floyd's death sparked a nationwide mob in 2020. After more than a year of looting, vandalizing, arson, and general domestic terror, what the Canadians have managed to accomplish is almost unrecognizable to the U.S. Left. To the rest of America, it's a refreshing reminder of the kind of civil disobedience this nation used to embrace for change. It's a peaceful protest, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) told the Daily Signal, "clog things up, make them think about the [vaccine] mandates."
Double-Speak, Lies, and Precedents Driving the Convention of States
- By Tom DeWeese - American Policy Center
The drive for an Article V Convention of States is assaulting state legislatures at an intense level. Obviously, proponents of such an action are counting on the discontent of Americans as the Biden cabal proves the misery of massive federal intrusion into every aspect of our lives. Americans naturally want to rein it in.
The problem is the Article V Convention of States strategy is a false hope being perpetrated by forces pretending to be conservative, promising a workable solution to balance the federal budget, stop out-of-control regulations, and give the government back to the people. In truth, the Article V Convention of States movement is one of the greatest flimflams ever perpetrated on the American people. It’s nearly the equivalent of combining the lies of the covid pandemic with election fraud and climate change. In short, the drive for the Article V Convention of States is just that dangerous because unaware state legislators are falling for it, and naive and trusting constituents are supporting them. The Republic is at stake.
A Black History Plea for Justice and Unity
- By Alveda C. King
Dear America, we are over halfway through Black History Month 2022. I am writing today with a plea for prayers of love, unity, righteousness, justice, and law and order; first in our nation, and then around the world.
In light of controversial current events such as trucker protests, critical race theory debates, China challenges, and political jockeying over crack pipes, (https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/biden-administration-black-americans-alveda-king-jack-brewer-ken-blackwell) I believe it's time to pause and take a prayer break.
Thankfully, in spite of controversial news reports, natural and man made disasters, and all types of mayhem, there is quite a bit of positive attention being given to the subject of black history this year.
Laura Woodworth Inspires Writers to Counter Cancel Culture with Bold Faith at NRB 2022
- By Cooke Media Group
With cancel culture and other counter-Christian agendas presiding over our nation, Laura Woodworth's session "Effective Writing: Share Your Faith with the World" at NRB 2022 will inspire writers to counteract the darkness with light.
LOS ANGELES -- In an age when Christianity has become a counterculture, Laura Woodworth inspires Christian writers to boldly share their faith. A speaker at NRB 2022 in Nashville, her workshop "Effective Writing: Share Your Faith with the World" (Thursday, March 10) will equip Christian writers to counteract the dark and disturbing agendas of secular media with intentional writing that brings truth, hope and light into the world.
"Cancel culture has made a strong attempt to cancel the voice of Christianity in our society," shares Woodworth. "But in a digital age, your words of light and truth can literally touch the world."
Behind the Rings, a Bloody Harvest
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
Inside the high-tech cocoon of the Olympic Games, it's literally a different world. Robots whip up fresh pots of coffee and cocktails, while bowls of noodles magically appear from the ceiling. There are nail and hair salons, flower shops, menus with 678 food options, even "zero-G" beds. It's the closed loop the Chinese government wanted -- the "bubble" that would keep the questions at bay. Athletes go about their days, writing sports greatest stories -- while outside, a dirty secret lurks. There's a second genocide ripping through the provinces, a bloody trail almost too ghoulish to believe.
Like most people brought to the camps, Gulbahar Jeliova was beaten within an inch of her life. And unlike everyone brought to the camps, she was treated in the hospital afterward. While she was there, Gulbahar noticed two young girls, both dressed in orange uniforms. It was a sign, another prisoner told her, that they were being taken "to sleep." That's odd, Gulbahar thought. Why can't they sleep in their rooms? Because these girls, the other patient explained, were being put to sleep "forever."
Google Project Could Get Part of $150M in State Surplus Money
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
The S.C. Department of Commerce hasn’t committed to any projects with most of the $150 million in state surplus funds that the agency wants to spend next fiscal year for a new “infrastructure” program, the department’s director told budget writers recently.
Yet Commerce secretary Harry Lightsey, whom Gov. Henry McMaster appointed last June, disclosed to a state House Ways and Means panel that approximately $80 million of the proposed $150 million could be used in part for a Myrtle Beach project tied to internet search giant Google, and another project involving an automotive test track at a publicly owned business park near Greenville.
He also discussed two other projects totaling about $70 million that would benefit corporate giants Boeing and Volvo, the details of which were revealed by The Nerve before the Feb. 1 Ways and Means Economic Development Subcommittee hearing.
Has Putin Won Round One in Ukraine?
- By Pat Buchanan
When NBC's Lester Holt asked President Joe Biden what might prompt him to send U.S. troops to rescue Americans fleeing Ukraine, Biden replied: "There's not. That's a world war when Americans and Russia start shooting at one another."
"It's not like we're dealing with a terrorist organization. We're dealing with one of the largest armies in the world. ... Things could go crazy quickly."
Biden was saying Americans are not going to fight Russians in Ukraine, even to protect or extract imperiled U.S. troops, diplomats or citizens.
Speaking last week on the Senate floor, Sen. Ted Cruz echoed Biden: "I want to be clear and unequivocal. ... Under no circumstances should we send our sons and daughters to die to defend Ukraine from Russia."
Bible Trial Targets the Core of Christian Faith: Love the Sinner, Hate the Sin
- By Christian Newswire
HELSINKI, Finland -- The following statement is released by Päivi Räsänen (photo), Member of the Parliament of Finland:
The prosecutor has a year ago in her written application for summons made a number of false and untrue allegations about my views. According to the prosecutor, my view is that "homosexuals are not created by God as heterosexuals are." Nowhere have I said such a thing. I have repeatedly emphasized that all human beings are created in the image of God and have equal dignity and human rights. In the passage to which the prosecutor refers, reference was made to the biblical account of creation. Referring to it, I stated: "In the beginning, God created a man and a woman and intended marriage to be between the two. I regard homosexuals as fully equal humans and, in addition, equally worthy human beings created in the image of God."
The End of COVID-19
- By Neil Patel
We don't want antifa and Black Lives Matter activists shutting down cities with riots, and we shouldn't want truckers blockading roads either. In each case, as the rule of law is upheld, it is incumbent on those in power to also look at the root causes driving the unrest. American authorities seemed inclined to look at those root causes when it came to the race protests and riots. For some reason, Canadian and American authorities seem totally uninterested in what is driving the increasing COVID-19 civil disobedience.
People cannot stay locked down forever; it causes real harm. Pandemic restrictions have been in place for almost two years now. It's an understatement to say people are over it. Everyone wants to protect the most vulnerable among us, but the damage has been adding up. That damage is not hitting those at the top of our society. They can fly private to their vacation compounds, sit maskless in box seats at the Super Bowl and ride out the storm while making record profits. Regular Americans do not have that option. They're feeling the pain. That pain is not hypothetical. Depression, suicide and drug overdoses are all skyrocketing. The American Psychological Association says America is in a full blown "mental health crisis."
State and Federal Efforts Highlight ERA Expiration
- By Eagle Forum
Proponents of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) may be trying to resurrect the dead legislation, but others are fighting back. After the Virginia legislature voted to ratify the ERA in 2020, feminists claimed they have the number of states needed to place the amendment into the Constitution. However, the deadline passed decades ago. Although House Democrats continue to hold hearings and pass resolutions to erase the 1979 deadline, lawmakers and officials, even in the Biden administration, confirm that the ERA has expired.
Virginia is not the most recent state making the news regarding the amendment. Last week, the West Virginia Senate voted to rescind their ratification of the ERA. Lawmakers cited concerns of abortion rights and upholding the integrity of the amendment process. If the legislation passes the House and is signed by the governor, West Virginia will be the sixth state to take this action.
Has Biden's Perfect Supreme Court Pick Already Been Aborted?
- By American Life League
WASHINGTON -- President Joe Biden has declared that his nomination to replace retiring United States Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will be a Black woman. According to American Life League Executive Vice President Hugh Brown, Biden's best candidate was likely aborted 40-some years ago.
"More than 862,320 babies are aborted every year in the United States, and 38% percent of them are the children of Black women," explained Brown. "By the sheer mathematics, one quarter of the Black infants aborted after Roe v. Wade in the mid to late 1970s would have grown up to be today's women in their forties."
"In a society that is growing ever more sensitive to racial inequality, it is unbelievable that the spotlight is not shining brightly on the disproportionate numbers of abortions committed on Black women," added Brown. "A disparate 86 percent of Planned Parenthood's abortion facilities are located within walking distance of low income and minority communities. When you look at the facts, Planned Parenthood is clearly remaining true to the original eugenic intentions of its founder Margaret Sanger and her racist objectives of preventing Black births."
Disney Way Undermines Authority of Scripture
- By Children's Ministries International, Inc.
In Evangelicalism, there is a movement in children's ministry that promotes the wisdom and business practices of entertainment mogul Walt Disney (1901-1966). These influencers encourage children's pastors and children's ministry leaders to use Disney's ideas to build the children's ministry in their congregations. This methodology is known as the "Disney Way."
As with every innovative approach to ministry, this one must also be examined in the light of Scripture.
First, the Disney Way of children's ministry robs God of His glory. The Bible says all glory belongs to God (I Peter 4:11), and He doesn't share His glory with anyone (Isaiah 42:8, 48:11; Psalm 115:1).
If a local church successfully implements the Disney Way, and these methods effectively attract more kids to the children's ministry, who gets the credit? Not Christ. The praise goes to Disney and his genius. The Disney Way glorifies man by putting human will, human ability, and human achievement above God. Giving a man credit for church growth steals glory from God.
Look over Here! Another bright shiny object to distract those silly Americans
- By Kat Stansell - American Policy Center
With news of the Chinese Olympics all over the media, Xi and Putin met in a summit on Feb. 4, 2022. This meeting produced an “unprecedented 5400 word joint statement” which has “consolidated their alliance against the United States.” We , it seems, have entered a new Cold War, while we were waiting for the sporting events to start.
What else could we expect? The strength of the United States has been gravely eroded by pathetic actions of the feckless coup in Washington, DC. America is no longer a threat, but has become a weak sister on the international stage, a veritable laughingstock, who has the respect of few around the world. This puts us and our freedoms in direct danger of destruction, from the outside as well as the inside. The Russia/China alliance has been being built over the last decade, but was severely interrupted by the strong leadership of Donald Trump from 2017 – 2020. As soon as the CCP got Joe Biden installed behind the barbed wire in DC, they knew they would be free to dominate the world.
U.S. Sponsors Fan the Olympic Flame
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
America's biggest companies may be downplaying their Olympic sponsorships at home, but in Beijing? You can't walk two feet without a flashy reminder of the U.S.'s heavy corporate presence. "At the bottom of the slope where snowboarders [compete]... an electronic sign cycles through ads for companies like Samsung and Audi," the New York Times explains. "Coca-Cola's cans are adorned with Olympic rings. Procter & Gamble has opened a beauty salon in the Olympic Village. Visa is the event's official credit card." Like most of today's corporate culture, it's the tale of two continents: demand "justice" at home, enable the violators of it abroad.
Congressional Candidate Lynz Piper-Loomis Addresses Her Primary Opponent's ANTI-2A Votes
- By Liberty & Justice Consulting Firm
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Congressional Candidate Lynz Piper-Loomis released the following statement:
"It is a sad day in SC-01 when we now have TWO anti-second amendment candidates running for the people's seat. One deceived our former President, one deceived our district. We CANNOT make this mistake again. Katie Arrington shamelessly voted AGAINST H 3700, which was our state's constitutional carry legislation. She failed to uphold our constitutional values. Nancy Mace, our Pelosi puppet member of Congress, voted for the NDAA, which has RED FLAG LAWS. I fully support 2A no restrictions. I fully support non-federalized reciprocity so people do not have to register their freedoms. I'm proud to be the only pro-second amendment candidate in this race. I will NEVER cower like my primary opponents on upholding and protecting our sacred constitutional rights. I will ALWAYS stand for our U.S. Constitution."

The Power of God in Politics
- By Mike LaPierre – On the Record
Politicians often neglect discussing the all-consuming nature of the Lord our God.
We may mention an awareness of the Creator or "touch base" with Him in a cursory prayer before or after a political event, but have you ever listened to a political figure wax eloquent and DECISIVE about the power of the GREAT I AM in the political arena?
The answer is a resounding NO! Even those with a ministerial background, now turned politicians, nibble around the edges when it comes to religion and politics. Instead, we leave it to the great political leaders of yesteryear who were men and women of faith to sound the alarm for faith, freedom, and virtue in the public square of 2022. Where are our Christian political leaders today? Why are they cowering in the corners of servitude and bondage of the secular humanist political arrangement?

Who Murdered All the Asian Women -- and Who's Covering It Up?
- By Michelle Malkin
I'm a 5-foot-1, 105-pound, 51-year-old woman of Pacific Islander/Asian descent. That's much more personal data than most women are willing to share publicly, but I'm all about being blunt. Let's face it: My gender, ethnic background and small stature make me a perfect target for violent crime in big cities that are soft on criminals -- especially repeat offenders who happen to be black.
Black-on-Asian violence is a bloody reality. According to the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics criminal victimization report published in 2019, 182,230 Asians in America were victims of violent crime in 2018. Black offenders were the perpetrators in a whopping 27.5% of those cases -- the highest of any racial group. Given that black Americans make up only 12% of the population, that means black offenders on a per capita basis commit more than five times as many violent attacks on Asians as whites or Hispanics.
The Thin Viability Line
- By Dr. John Seago - Eagle Forum
This year promises to hold seismic shifts in the cultural, spiritual, and legal battles over abortion, so let us prepare to face these challenges with prudence, courage, and faith.
The most consequential Pro-Life development of last year was the Supreme Court of the United States agreeing to hear arguments in the Dobbs v. Jackson case. This case could be the vehicle to overturn or drastically reign in the two most deadly rulings in our country’s history: Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey. The second development is the passage of the Texas Heartbeat Act, which has saved thousands of preborn lives already, and has served as a beacon of light for how our country can move into a post-Roe era.
Is Roe Finally Over?
Learning the Lessons of Black History
- By Star Parker
February is Black History Month.
Why do we need Black History Month? Why don't we set aside special occasions to observe the history of other ethnicities in our country?
My answer to this question is that Black history tells a uniquely important story in our nation. It is a story that no other race or ethnicity shares. It is a story that must be grasped and understood if we are to understand our country as a whole, where it has been and where it needs to go.
Unique among a large percentage of Black Americans is a history in which their ancestors did not choose to come to America. They were brought here by force and enslaved. No other ethnicity shares a history in which their ancestors did not come here by choice.
Soul-Searching Middle East Youth Turn to 'Streams in the Desert'
- By SAT-7
Two-thirds of arid region's young people stream videos on phones; SAT-7 PLUS eyes 'digital generation' with gospel
EASTON, Md. -- Thousands of soul-searching young people in the Middle East, including many from Muslim families, are using their smartphones to watch the first-ever Christian video-on-demand streaming service in the vast desert region.
Since launching a year ago, SAT-7 PLUS -- a Netflix-type service that streams faith-based programs 24/7 in Arabic, Farsi and Turkish across the Middle East and North Africa -- is growing by the day.
The free on-demand channel is a "game changer" for sharing the Christian message of peace and love in the troubled region where Christians often find themselves isolated from other believers and unable to talk about their faith openly.
Under Pandemic Lockdowns, the Rich Got Richer and the Poor Got Crushed
- By Stephen Moore
Today, two years after COVID-19 first hit these shores from China, most studies confirm that the heavy-handed government lockdowns of businesses, restaurants, schools, churches and parks did more harm than good to our health and well-being.
States and countries with strict and prolonged lockdown and stay-at-home orders had slightly better health outcomes, but they ruined their economies and had highly adverse effects on children.
If any good comes out of COVID-19, it should be that we've learned this lesson the hard way, and never, never again should we allow politicians to impose these unconstitutional lockdown orders again.
Now we have evidence of more collateral damage from lockdowns, and perhaps this will persuade even those on the far left who generally support the heavy hand of government.
GOP Gives Big Business Feud for Thought
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
This Valentine's Day, there's no love lost between conservatives and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The word "strained" doesn't begin to describe the two sides' relationship after drifting even farther apart last year. Since the election, things have taken an increasingly bitter turn under the group's woke leadership, who seem to be enamored with Leftist organizations like Black Lives Matter that helped torch cities in 2020 and led to the shutdown of businesses the Chamber is supposed to represent. And by the looks of it, those fences aren't going to be mended anytime soon.

The Richard Nixon His Loyalists Knew
- By Pat Buchanan
Whenever America is polarized, as it is today, people go back in memory and history to recall other times their nation was so divided.
The Civil War of the 1860s and the social revolution that tore us apart in the 1960s come instantly to mind. In that latter time, there was no figure more central to the conflicts of his day than Richard M. Nixon.
And no staff member was closer to Nixon in the campaign of 1968, or for the first four years of his presidency, than his personal aide Dwight Chapin, whose memoir, "The President's Man," is published this week.
Coincidentally, this February of 2022 is the 50th anniversary of Nixon's trip to China that changed the world. Chapin was at Nixon's side every day of that trip and had negotiated with the Chinese to prepare the schedule for both the president and first lady Pat Nixon.
The Gates of Hell
- By Mike Scruggs
The Disgraceful History of Civil War POW Camps
Almost 13,000 Union prisoners of war died in Confederate custody at a Confederate POW camp near Andersonville, Georgia, during the last 14 months of the war in 1864 and 1865. That was about 29 percent of the total of 45,000 Union prisoners held there during the war. The exact number according to actual records was 12,919. That was more than half of the 22, 576 total Union deaths in Confederate POW camps. This represents 8.4 percent of the 270,000 Union prisoners held in POW camps during the Civil War.
Although this tragic number of deaths was made into a continuous blizzard of anti-Southern propaganda in Northern political campaigns after the war, the Andersonville prisoners were not mistreated by Confederate authorities or Confederate guards at the camp. The Confederate guards died at the same rate as the prisoners. The principal causes of death at Andersonville were dysentery, diarrhea, typhoid, smallpox, scurvy, and hospital gangrene. About half the prisoners suffered from scurvy. Malnutrition had greatly increased the vulnerability of men to these diseases and made wound recovery less likely. Many of the men were so emaciated that photos enraged the Northern public.
U.S. Rep. Mace Owes $11.5K in S.C. House Ethics Fines
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, who is an ex-S.C. House member, owes a total of $11,500 in civil fines to the state House Ethics Committee for campaign reporting violations related to her former position, according to the committee’s top lawyer.
The total includes a $600 fine for the late filing of a campaign report due last month, Jane Shuler, the committee’s chief legal counsel, said in a written response this week to The Nerve’s questions about Mace’s fines.
An online list of House Ethics Committee fines, which was last updated in December, shows that Mace was separately fined $5,100 last year for the late filing of campaign reports due in January and April, plus another $700 for the late filing of a report due in July.
