The Greatest Government Failure in American History
- By Stephen Moore
The tally for how much the federal government spent to combat COVID-19 is now estimated to be $5 trillion. It is more than the combined costs of World Wars I and II. The left is celebrating that politicians in Washington saved us. Really? From what exactly?
Two years later, it is time for an honest assessment. Could things have worsened for the country if the government had spent nothing and done nothing? What would have happened if we had not shut down our businesses? Our churches, schools and restaurants. Our parks, basketball courts and playgrounds.
Would the public have made worse decisions regarding protecting its health and the health of its families and its employees than the politicians have made?

New Study Reveals Enormous Generation Gaps in How Evangelicals Like to Give to Charity
- By Infinity Concepts
EXPORT, Penn. -- Evangelical Protestant donors under age 40 are extremely different from their older counterparts – and especially when compared with evangelical donors 70 and older.
The findings are detailed in The Generation Gap: Evangelical Giving Preferences. The study of over 1,000 American evangelical Protestants was released today by Grey Matter Research and Infinity Concepts.
Fifty-eight percent of evangelical Protestants give money to charities or ministries outside of their church. These donors were asked their preferences in eight different areas regarding giving. In every one of those eight areas, preferences vary substantially by age.
Overall, evangelicals favor the following:
NATO -- Strategic Asset or Liability?
- By Pat Buchanan
Is the territorial integrity of Ukraine a cause worth America's fighting a war with Russia?
No, it is not. And this is why President Joe Biden has declared that the U.S. will not become militarily involved should Russia invade Ukraine.
Biden is saying that, no matter our sentiments, our vital interests dictate staying out of a Russia-Ukraine war.
But why then does Secretary of State Antony Blinken continue to insist there is an "open door" for Ukraine to NATO membership -- when that would require us to do what U.S. vital interests dictate we not do: fight a war with Russia for Ukraine?
NATO's "open door policy" is based on Article 10, which declares that NATO members, "may, by unanimous agreement, invite any other European State ... to accede to this Treaty."
Voting-machine Company Refuses to Cooperate With Wisconsin Election Audit
- By James Murphy - The New American
A Nebraska-based voting machine company is refusing to cooperate with a forensic audit of the 2020 general election in Wisconsin.
Attorneys for Election Systems and Software (ES&S) signaled their intention not to comply with the Wisconsin audit in a letter in which they referred to the subpoena issued by former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gableman as a “quintessential fishing expedition casting their nets as wide as possible in the hopes that something which might actually be sought is caught within the net but amidst the thousands upon thousands of other documents and pages that have no relevancy to the matter.”
In the letter, signed by attorneys Michael Cox, Daniel Fischer, and Michael Maistelman, the company claimed that it “is under no obligation to respond to any of the subpoenas.”

Putin’s Christian Vision—Background and Understanding
- By Mike Scruggs
Of God and His Providence over the Nations
The last three leaders of Russia have something remarkably similar in their background. Mikhail Gorbachev, Boris Yeltsin, and Vladimir Putin had mothers who were devout Russian Orthodox Christians and had their sons secretly baptized as infants during the years of vehement anti-Christian Communist rule.
Gorbachev was born in 1931 but is still living. He was President of the Soviet Union from March 15, 1990, to December 25, 1991. His grandparents were practicing Christians, and he was christened “Mikhail” by his grandfather. While Stalin lived, Gorbachev was a dedicated Communist. But it slowly became apparent that Gorbachev was an intellectual idealist, who believed socialism was not genuine unless it was truly democratic. Long-time personal friends have described Gorbachev as loyal and personally honest, confident, polite, tactful, and having a happy and optimistic temperament. One said Gorbachev was a “remarkably decent man with high moral standards.” A recent film clip of Gorbachev at home showed him to be philosophical and having a self-deprecating sense of humor. He is described by old friends as bright and hard-working, sometimes a workaholic. He is an admirer of St. Francis of Assisi, who he says had a significant influence on his life. He has a large Russian Orthodox icon saint painting in his home. U.S. President Ronald Reagan thought Gorbachev was a “closet Christian,” because Gorbachev had told him they had Christian morals in common. In December 1989, Gorbachev met with Pope John Paul II at the Vatican and agreed to official diplomatic recognition for the Vatican.
Commerce Still Silent on Specifics of $150M ‘Infrastructure’ Program
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
S.C. Department of Commerce officials remain tight-lipped about details of a proposed $150 million “infrastructure” program, which Gov. Henry McMaster included in his state budget version for next fiscal year.
On Thursday, Commerce released records to The Nerve under the S.C. Freedom of Information Act, but the relatively few documents gave no specifics about how the money would be spent.
The Nerve on Dec. 10 first revealed that Commerce was seeking $100 million out of state surplus funds for the “Strategic Economic Development Infrastructure” program – listing it as its top budget priority for the fiscal year that starts July 1, according to the agency’s initial budget request submitted to the state Department of Administration.
At the time, Commerce didn’t respond to written questions about the program, so The Nerve submitted a formal records request under the Freedom of Information Act.
Earlier this month, The Nerve revealed that McMaster was seeking $50 million more for the program than what Commerce initially requested as part of his proposed $36 billion total state budget for fiscal 2022-23. But, as with his Cabinet agency’s initial request, the governor’s state spending plan contained no details on the program, and following Commerce’s practice, his office didn’t respond to The Nerve’s written questions.
Quo Vadis, My Dying Country?
- By W.H. Lamb
One of my very favorite films of all time is that glorious old 1951 movie, QUO VADIS, which starred Deborah Kerr, Peter Ustinov, and the patriot, Robert Taylor. You may recall that Quo Vadis was a love story that revolved around the clash between the corrupted Roman culture, based on the veneration of a “Supreme Leader” (Emperor Nero), and the new Christian faith, based upon the worship of a “Supreme Savior”, our LORD Jesus. One scene particularly impressed me, because while it wasn’t Biblically accurate, it did illustrate the film’s message of duty to God before duty to country. In it, the Apostle Peter, portrayed so well by the late Finlay Currie, was walking on a lonely road, leaving Rome to avoid persecution under the Emperor Nero. According to a tradition of men (written in the Apocrypha), Peter saw a bright light in the trees and heard a voice speaking to him. Supposedly the voice was that of his Savior, Jesus, a voice that Peter had often heard. Peter then asked the memorable question, “Quo Vadis, Domine?”, i.e. “where are you going, Lord?” The voice answers: “I am going to Rome, to be crucified again”, whereupon Peter decides to return to Rome and later suffers an agonizing death by being crucified upside down. (Biblically speaking, Peter did ask Jesus, “quo vadis?”, or “where are you going?”, in John 13:36, but in a different context). If you’ve never seen QUO VADIS you really should, because high quality classic films like it are no longer produced, and it’s totally appropriate for Christian families. (It’s available on Amazon.com. and other sources on the internet—just be sure to get the 1951 version).
Virginia AG Miyares Declares Colleges Lack Authority to Issue Vax Mandates
- By Eagle Forum
Alton, IL – In his first legal opinion as Virginia’s Attorney General, Jason Miyares opined that the Code of Virginia does not grant Virginia’s state colleges and universities the power to require the COVID-19 vaccine as a general condition of enrollment or in-person attendance.
“Although the General Assembly specifically authorized public institutions of higher education to assist the Department of Health and local health departments in the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine, the legislation did not grant such institutions power to impose vaccine requirements,” said Miyares.
“We are thrilled that right out of the gate, Attorney General Miyares is defending Virginians against unlawful overreach from unelected bureaucrats,” said Eagle Forum President Colleen Holcomb. “We hope other Attorneys General throughout the country will follow suit.”

Tech Mate: How Silicon Valley's China Pals Compromise America
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
He calls it "the scariest investigation I've ever conducted." And anyone reading through the bombshell revelations of Peter Schweizer's new book are bound to agree. Most Americans knew the Chinese Communist Party was quietly trying to infiltrate our colleges, financial institutions, tech companies -- even our military. What they didn't know is who's helping them: Big Tech. Turns out, Silicon Valley isn't just sympathetic to the evil regime -- they're accessories to it.
There are a lot of jarring moments in Schweizer's Red Handed: How American Elites Get Rich Helping China Win, but the overall picture is deeply disturbing -- young, Silicon Valley billionaires eager to indulge their friends at the highest levels of China's government. Of course, that's just fine with the regime, who would like nothing more than access to our technology so they can compete with and overtake us. "Science and technology is a national weapon," Chinese President Xi Jinping has insisted. "We should seize the commanding heights of technological competition and future development."
Christian Schools Conference to Celebrate Growing Enrollments
- By Christian Newswire
SAN DIEGO -- While coronavirus has led to fewer students in public schools, a group of 12 major associations of Christian educators is readying a conference that will help bridge divides and embrace change in teaching and learning amid increased enrollment at faith-based institutions.
The host organizations for "Converge 2022: Leading Courageously, Renewing Hope" include the Association of Christian Schools International, which had a 12% jump in enrollment at its affiliated primary and secondary schools last year. Classical Christian and Roman Catholic schools also have reported gains.
"The last two years have shown the advantage Christian schools have in being nimble in serving students and their families with excellence," says Lynn Swaner, Converge chairperson.
Eagle Forum Attends Annual March for Life
- By Eagle Forum
Since 1974 and the infamous ruling in Roe v. Wade thousands of Americans have walked the stretch of streets between the Washington Monument and the U.S. Capitol in solidarity for the millions of lives lost to abortion. This year was no different, despite being the coldest day in three years in Washington, D.C. It is estimated that about 150,000 people made the march to the Capitol!
The rally was energizing! Speakers included Father Mike Schmitz, host of 2021’s number one overall podcast, “Bible in a Year,” actor Kirk Cameron, and members of Congress. We encourage you to listen to the rally here.

The media likes to say Christians are a dying, ineffectual voice in the public square. If that were true -- if people of faith really had no influence in this country -- then why is the Left pretending to be one of them? They talk a good game, but radical Democrats are terrified of the impact that motivated believers are having in today's debates. So they put on a few clerical collars, cite a couple Bible verses, and declare themselves guardians of the democracy. At least that's what an organization called "Faithful America" did. It was only later that people started to wonder: faithful to who and to what?
Former White House Director of Strategic Communications, Mercedes Schlapp, Calls for a Boycott of the 2022 Beijing Olympic Games
- By Stanton Public Policy Center/Purple Sash Revolution
WASHINGTON -- One week before the 2022 Beijing Olympics begin, Mercedes Schlapp has joined the global campaign #LeastWatchedOlympics.
This unique global effort is being organized by Stanton Public Policy Center/Purple Sash Revolution, which is a women's advocacy and educational group that works on issues of human rights and justice which empower and inspire women. It is affiliated with Stanton Healthcare, which operates life-affirming women's health clinics in America and internationally.
This campaign gives people the opportunity to make the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics the least watched Olympics in history while sending a powerful message to the Chinese government the world stands against China's tragic human rights abuses and Uyghur genocide, and will not be used as propaganda tool of the Chinese Communist Party.
To Politicians: We Don't Need Your Help Making Good Decisions
- By Veronique de Rugy
Does anyone truly believe that our government -- which consistently creates monopoly privileges for companies with its own cronyism -- can be trusted to ensure that private markets remain competitive? Apparently so. Consider the resurgence of antitrust efforts against "Big Tech." If history is our guide, going after disfavored companies will result in less competition, not more, along with fewer choices and higher prices for you and me.
Take the American Innovation and Choice Online Act recently approved by a Senate panel. This bill would block a handful of tech companies like Amazon and Apple from favoring their own products and services over those of competitors who also use these platforms. For instance, independent merchants who sell on Amazon claim to be punished if they sell their products for less on their own websites or on other sites like Walmart's or Target's.
Biden Administration Declares ERA Dead
- By Eagle Forum
Alton, IL – The Biden Administration’s Office of Legal Counsel put yet another nail in the coffin of the long-dead Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).
The so-called Equal Rights Amendment, which would have prohibited discrimination on the basis of “sex,” passed both houses of Congress and was signed by President Jimmy Carter in 1972. ERA, which feminists claimed “put women in the Constitution” was headed for certain ratification until Phyllis Schlafly and her Eagle Forum activists raised concerns that because ERA mentioned “sex,” but not “women,” the amendment would not ensure the equality feminists desired, but would actually remove from women important rights and protections, like exemption from military draft, and the right to sex-segregated private spaces like bathrooms and locker rooms.
Is Democracy Dying or America Disintegrating?
- By Pat Buchanan
"What do we mean by the Revolution? The war? That was no part of the revolution; it was only an effect and consequence of it. The revolution was in the minds of the people."
What did John Adams mean when he wrote this to Thomas Jefferson in 1815, after both had served as president?
Adams was saying that America, the country that took up arms and fought for its independence from the British, was already a nation -- before 1775.
America preexisted the Constitution, Adams is saying. America had been conceived and born before he and Jefferson began to write its Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia in 1776. America had come into being even before Lexington and Concord in 1775.

Stay Alert Virginia, The Nation Is Watching
- By Tom DeWeese - American Policy Center
It is a great feeling of relief for many in Virginia to receive a new Republican Governor to office. After decades of Democrat rule, leading to larger and larger government control over every aspect of business, healthcare, education, environment, and personal choice, Virginians are hoping for major changes in how their government will now operate.
Adding to the positive feelings across the state, new Governor Glenn Youngkin had a busy inauguration day, signing nine executive orders and two executive directives to set the tone for his term. Each was met with thundering applause.
Russia's Gas Grip Has the World over a Barrel
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
If the White House didn't orchestrate Justice Stephen Breyer's retirement, then they certainly won't be unhappy about its timing. A vacancy on the Supreme Court is exactly what the PR spin doctors ordered for Joe Biden, who's had trouble changing the news cycle from the president's latest debacle-waiting-to-happen: Ukraine. And while it might turn a few heads in the short term, it won't do anything to quell the long-term problem of Vladimir Putin. As the rest of the world scrambles to pull Europe back from the brink of war, the burning question in most nations' minds isn't whether America can stop Putin -- but whether an America led by Joe Biden can.
As Justice Breyer Announces His Retirement, Operation Rescue Vows to Oppose Any Nominee that Will Not Respect Human Life & Liberty
- By Christian Newswire
WASHINGTON -- Today, it was learned that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will announce his retirement as early as tomorrow.
Breyer was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1994, and has consistently sided in favor of abortion when the matter has been before the Supreme Court. He is expected to remain on the court until the end of this term, which means he will cast a vote in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case, which has the potential to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade case that decriminalized abortion in the U.S. The Dobbs opinion is expected in the spring.
Judicial Panel Hiding Behind Secrecy Law
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
A legislatively controlled committee isn’t saying publicly why it found a longtime circuit court judge unqualified – and state law requires the secrecy.
The six-legislator, 10-member Judicial Merit Selection Commission (JMSC) on Dec. 1 voted 9-0 not to qualify Horry County circuit judge Steven John, who has been on the bench since 2001, for another six-year term – a rare action involving a sitting, veteran judge.
In a December Nerve story, Erin Crawford, the JMSC’s chief lawyer, wouldn’t say why John was found unqualified for the 15th Circuit Court seat, though she said a formal screening report to be released by the commission would “state forth the findings of the Commission on each of the 9 evaluative criteria and will set forth any areas of concern as well as commission comments.”

GoFundMe Withholds $5.2 Million from Canadian Truckers Convoy and Campaign Donors
- By GiveSendGo
BOSTON -- On Tuesday, GoFundMe announced they would be freezing and withholding the funds of a campaign created in support of a convoy of Canadian truckers traveling across Canada in protest against vaccine mandates. As of Wednesday morning, the campaign has raised more than $5.2 million in support of the truckers convoy.
"This is yet another example of Big Tech becoming Big Brother, dictating how people should make decisions and raise money," said Jacob Wells, co-founder of GiveSendGo, the #1 free Christian crowdfunding site. "Not only is GoFundMe withholding funds from the recipients of this campaign, but they're refusing to refund money back to the donors."
