April is “Child Abuse Prevention Month”. In observance of the month, Just Say Something (JSS) joins the Children’s Trust of South Carolina in raising awareness regarding the prevention of child abuse and neglect. JSS will plant a “blue pinwheel” garden near our office; spread the word on our web site, social media pages, parent enrichment courses; and will encourage all staff to “Wear Blue” this Friday, April 5, 2019.

In South Carolina 17,662 children have been neglected (60%) and physically (55%) and/or sexually (4%) abused. The effects of these “Adverse Childhood Experiences” (ACEs) or traumas can often lead to substance use and addiction, mental illness, criminal behavior, and health problems that last well into adulthood.

“If we ensure that every child has a great childhood”, said Carol Reeves, Executive Director of Just Say Something. “Then it will go a long way towards preventing the cycle of addiction; mental illness; chronic disease; and child abuse & neglect.
