GREENVILLE, S.C. (January 30, 2019) — In a press conference at University Center Greenville, Bob Jones University today announced its membership in University Center and the location of its new School for Continuing, Online and Professional Education (SCOPE) at that facility.
Through its new school, BJU will offer education programs designed primarily for post-traditional students typically 25 or older who desire to complete a degree or participate in certificate programs that enhance employment skills. Online courses include degree completion programs, professional master’s degrees and a graduate certificate program. Credit and non-credit certificate and professional development programs are being added. The new school also manages dual enrollment programs for high school students and online undergraduate courses.
“This new initiative underscores our commitment to support students from diverse educational backgrounds and with diverse educational requirements,” says BJU President Steve Pettit. “We want to provide both flexibility and a broad range of options to help adult learners to acquire or finish degrees that will better position them in today’s workforce. Our expanded online presence will enable students from around the world to benefit from an accredited, Christian liberal arts education.”
Membership in University Center Greenville, which provides degrees from regionally accredited universities in fields aligned with Upstate South Carolina’s job market, is part of BJU’s efforts to serve online and post-traditional students. We are joining Anderson University, Clemson University, Converse College, Furman University, Greenville Technical College, Lander University, South Carolina State University, the University of South Carolina and USC Upstate in meeting the Upstate’s adult education needs.
In 2018, the University launched a Master of Sport Administration and Coaching degree and in January 2019 launched an RN to BSN program, both available entirely online. Future plans include developing both credit and non-credit certificate programs in areas such as healthcare, technology, project management and education.
“Bob Jones University has served the post-traditional market in a limited way over the years,” says Dr. Beverly Cormican, vice provost for strategic initiatives and dean of SCOPE. “With the launch of the School for Continuing, Online and Professional Education, we are more intentionally responding to market demand by purposefully extending our educational mission to the post-traditional student.”

General Information
- Formal admission to BJU is not required to take an online course, and approval to take an online course does not imply admission to BJU or to a particular degree program.
- Most online courses last approximately 6-8 weeks.
- Our online classes are asynchronous. Students are expected to meet assignment deadlines but have the flexibility to view lectures on their own timetable.
- Undergraduate and graduate students must be registered six or four hours respectively to be eligible for federal financial aid.
