Officer Tyler Bucholtz, a graduate of Bob Jones University, recently received the “Latent Hit of the Year” Award from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) at the 2019 Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Conference held in Greenville.
Bucholtz received the commendation because his “efforts in 2017 assisted the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office with the successful identification of a subject involved in a brutal beating and the subsequent charging of a man with attempted murder.”
“We have a great forensic team here at Greenville County DPS and good working relationships with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville Police Department and other jurisdictions within the county,” said Bucholtz. “Solving a serious case such as this for the victims and agencies we serve is always rewarding for us. We have state of the art technology available to us through SLED, and it has proven to be very effective. It’s good to know that we are making our community a safer place to live.”
Bucholtz, a resident of Simpsonville, earned a BS in criminal justice in 2005. In his work at the Greenville County Department of Public Safety, he primarily specializes in identifying suspects through fingerprint identification for multiple jurisdictions in the upstate. He serves as president of the South Carolina Division of the International Association for Identification.
The Greenville County Department of Public Safety consists of four operational divisions: the Forensic Division, the Records Management Division, the Detention Division and the Health Services Division (Detention Center).
