Bob Jones University will present the American Spiritual Ensemble Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 8 p.m. in BJU’s Founder’s Memorial Amphitorium.

Founded by Dr. Everett McCorvey in 1995, the group, composed of 120 acclaimed vocalists which perform in groups of about two dozen for concerts, has performed around the globe. Dr. McCorvey serves as a professor of voice and the director and executive producer of opera at the University of Kentucky. The mission of the American Spiritual Ensemble is to preserve the American Negro spiritual for modern audiences.

“I talk a lot during the concert and tell the story of the spirituals because when we tell the story of the spiritual we tell the story of our American history and celebrate this music,” said Dr. McCorvey. “The only way this music will be perpetuated is if we engage people and tell the story to young people.”

Tickets can be purchased online at bju.edu/events/fine-arts/ or by calling the BJU Programs and Productions box office at (864) 770-1372 Monday – Friday, 12-5 p.m.
