It is way past time to get a real commitment

It is way past time to get a real commitment for a wall. I do not care how many Americans support or oppose the wall. The President made it a central plank of his platform, Republicans have campaigned in favor of it and pretended repeatedly to fund it, and I think it is a visible symbol of our resolve to both secure our borders and stop these ridiculous caravans that keep traveling north.

It is fundamentally and absolutely worth building the wall. The President, at this point, has nothing to lose. The President should allow the government to shut down, hop a plane to Mara Lago, and stay there until Democrats yield on the issue. I have offered up the idea that the President should offer the Democrats a deal allowing Dreamers to stay, though without citizenship. I think a reasonable offer should be made.

But regardless, the wall should be funded and begun in the remainder of this fiscal year. If Democrats will not allow the wall to proceed, President Trump should let the government shut down and build a wall around the United States Capitol. After all, when Barack Obama was President, he built fences to keep tourists out of monuments when the government shut down. If it is good enough to keep citizens out of the World War II memorial, it is good enough to keep illegal immigrants out of our country. And until then, put a temporary fence around the Capitol to keep the Democrats there until they yield.

Build the wall. Shut down the government if you must.
