After 26 years as a police officer for the city of Greenville, I retired to take a job as a Court Security Officer under authority of the U.S. Marshals Service—my primary responsibility being protection of federal judges, among other duties. In this capacity that I occasionally have the privilege of seeing lawful immigrants come to the Clement Haynesworth Federal Building to complete the final step on their “pathway to citizenship” in compliance with our immigration laws.

Usually fifty to sixty in number, representing a variety of nationalities, these people are unfailingly cheerful, polite, well-dressed, and appreciative as they file into the building with children in tow—some waving small American flags. They quietly assemble in the large court room to await the Senior U.S. District Judge who will preside over the naturalization ceremony. When the judge enters he is formally seated and the court is called to order. After a few introductory remarks the judge administers to them the “Naturalization Oath” of citizenship.

With raised right hands they enthusiastically recite the following, in English:

”I hereby declare on oath that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have therefore been subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and Laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by law; and that I will take this obligation freely without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion. So Help Me God.”

After taking the oath, the “Star Spangled Banner” is sung beautifully by a member of the court staff, then, with hands over their hearts, they are led in the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. The judge congratulates them for their persistence in completing requirements for citizenship and the ceremony is over. They leave the courtroom as mannerly as when they entered, but much more animated, for they are very proud to be American citizens. I watch as these happy people file out of the building, some lingering to stand by the American flag in the lobby while friends and family take photos. Many shake my hand and thank me as they exit, although I contribute nothing to their newly gained status as citizens.

What a dramatic contrast these people are when compared to ten to twenty million alien immigrants who have defied our immigration laws and are encouraged to march in our streets to demand their “rights” while waving the flags of their mother countries. These are the criminal aliens being catered to by the worst of Washington politicians; those doing their damndest to make these people legal by legislative fiat to create multi-cultural insanity. They spit in the face of honorable immigrants who have obeyed our immigration laws to identify with our unique culture and heritage of freedom as Americans—not as perpetual aliens undermining our national security and soaking up billions of tax dollars through welfare, public housing, unemployment benefits, free health care, bilingual education programs, free legal advice, etc.

Today, irresponsible, self-serving, shameless bureaucrats in the U.S. Senate passed their “comprehensive immigration reform” amnesty to create another anvil about the neck of our nation that will accelerate destruction of the last remnants of our culture—a political sham for political gain. These are the politicians who refuse to demand our borders be secured, consistently ignoring the war against our national sovereignty. They condone “catch and release” federal policy regarding apprehended illegals, turn a blind eye to the U.S. Department of Justice forbidding Arizona authorities from enforcing federal immigration laws within that state, and they demean and insult every naturalized American citizen.

Someone has said correctly, “Amnesty by any other name is still amnesty!,” and no nation retains its historical identity and culture without effective border security that makes illegal entry extremely difficult or close to impossible as the foundation of its immigration laws.
