Seniors Commissioned as US Army Officers

The professional Army Cadre and instructors are led by LTC Brian Maddox. The Furman Ranger Challenge team finished 4th in the annual competition at Fort Jackson, competing against 17 teams from South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. Furman performed well despite the tough competition.

This year, Furman moved under the 4th ROTC Brigade headquartered at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. This new brigade has 40 schools from South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. Next year, the 4th Brigade will hold two Ranger Challenge events.

This year provided an excellent opportunity for the Paladin Battalion to expand their recruiting and increase the quality of cadets.

Their efforts also included strengthening the partnership agreement with North Greenville University in addition to signing a Memorandum of Agreement with Greenville Technical College to augment Furman’s Army ROTC Program.

This summer the undergraduate cadets will be involved in summer training at Fort Lewis, Washington, and around the world.

Cadet William Walker was presented the Commander’s Saber Award by LTC Maddox. This award is presented annually to a graduating senior who has demonstrated superb leadership attributes throughout his or her tenure in the ROTC program. Cadet Walker was also presented the Distinguished Military Graduate Award. The title, Distinguished Military Graduate, is given each year to graduating seniors that display outstanding qualities of leadership, high moral character, noteworthy academic achievement, and exceptional aptitude for military service.

Cadet Elisha Loflin was presented the National Sojourner’s Award by Lewis Langley. This award is presented to the Cadet that contributed the most to encourage and demonstrate Americanism within the corps of Cadets and on campus.

The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Award was presented to Cadet Daniel Dixon by Bob Krause. This award is presented to a Cadet that exhibits a high degree of leadership, military bearing, and exceptional service to the school or community.
