Roy Moore Won Republican Primary, Leads in Polls over Democrat Opponent

It appears that former Alabama Supreme Court Judge Roy Moore is headed back to his old job.

We recall that Moore was removed from his elected post by a federal judge for refusing to follow an order to remove the Ten Commandments from the Supreme Court building.

Alabama voters are allowed to elect their Supreme Court justices. Moore has filed for the office, won the Republican primary over two well-financed opponents and now is the Republican candidate on the ballot for the November 6, General Election. His Republican opponents were incumbent Judge Chuck Malone and Former State Attorney General Charlie Graddick.

The latest poll shows Moore leading Democrat Harry Lyon by 21 points, 54 percent to 33 percent. Moore even has support from the AFL-CIO this time around because of his fairness on the bench.

Moore told WND that he would not make an issue of the Ten Commandments this time, but would not abandon the principles they espouse.

If elected, he said he would be true to the foundational documents of the United States, its Constitution and the Alabama Constitution.

“Without the acknowledgement of God, we have no basis for a moral law and for the foundation of the Constitution,” Moore said.

He said it would be a significant statement for voters to return him to office as Chief Justice, “knowing what I stand form.”

Observers see support for Judge Moore as a backlash against abuse of power by federal judges and the Obama Administration.

Chuck Norris, a supporter of Judge Moore, describes him as possessing an amazing legal mind, a true patriot and a passionate family man.

Moore is the son of a jackhammer operator. He bagged groceries for 85 cents an hour at Piggly Wiggly to help support his family. He later was given an appointment to the US Military Academy at West Point, and commanded a military police company in Vietnam.

After military service, he attended the University of Alabama School of Law and worked as deputy District Attorney for Etowah County.

Former Governor Guy Hunt appointed Moore Circuit Judge in 1992. He was elected Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court in 2000 and removed from his position for defying a federal judge’s order to move a Ten Commandments monument from the State Supreme Court building.
