Former Senator Rick Santorum, an announced candidate for the Republican Presidential Primary, made two stops in Greenville County Sunday, May 31. In response to a question from a citizen concerned about the influence of the influx of Muslims into the country, Santorum said he was “not concerned about the rise of Islam in the United States.”
He is concerned about the numerous regulations being imposed by the Obama Administration on businesses, especially the one regulating ozone. He said he would start rolling back regulations on the first day of his administration if elected.
He stressed that the majority of people crossing the southern border currently are not Mexican, but come from all over the world.
The candidate arrived during the Sunday dinner rush at Tommy’s Ham House. He was able to circulate among the tables until the crowd cleared. The remaining audience numbered about two dozen, and were able to have a good question and answer session with the candidate
A reporter for a local daily newspaper asked the standard question being asked all Republican candidates at virtually every stop. “Have you changed your position on abortion and gay marriage?”
Santorum’s answer was a good one. He said all of the Republican candidates had virtually the same position on those issues and he didn’t see any movement toward change.
