CINDY HYDE SMITH

Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith won last Tuesday's run-off election in Mississippi to become the first woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate from Mississippi. Following the resignation of Senator Thad Cochrane for health reasons, Governor Phil Bryant appointed Hyde-Smith to fill the position until the election, making her the first Mississippi woman to serve in either chamber of Congress. Republicans now will have a 53-47 majority in the Senate. Kudos to the dedicated, energetic work of the Mississippi Federation of Republican Women led by President Vivian Dailey, and to the strike forces, phone calls and other vital assistance from member states of the NFRW.
