Key Conservative Principles Defined for Candidates, Elected Officials

The Greenville County Republican Party Executive Committee, following a lengthy debate, approved standards and principles for candidates and elected officials necessary to earn Greenville County GOP support.

Republican candidates and elected officials who disagree with certain principles listed in the resolution will not receive endorsement or financial support from the Greenville County Republican Party.

Ten (10) key public policy positions are identified for the 2010 election cycle which the Greenville County Republican Party Executive Committee expects its public officials and candidates to support:

1. We believe that life begins at conception and the killing of the unborn is immoral and should be illegal.

2. We support smaller government, smaller national debt, lower deficits and lower taxes by opposing bills like the “stimulus” bill.

3. We support market-based health care reform and oppose any government run healthcare particularly as it relates to health care rationing, denial of health care and government funding of abortions.

4. We support market-based energy reform by opposing cap and trade legislation.

5. We support workers’ right to secret ballot by opposing so-called “card-check”.

6. We support legal immigration and assimilation into American society by opposing amnesty for illegal immigrants.

7. We support victory in Iraq and Afghanistan by supporting military recommended troop surges.

8. We support containment of Iran and North Korea, particularly effective action to eliminate their nuclear weapons threat.

9. We support retention of the Defense of Marriage Act.

10. We support the right to keep and bear arms by opposing government restrictions on gun ownership.

Any candidate who disagrees with more than two of the above stated policy positions, excluding number 1 and number 10 which must be accepted, of the Greenville County Republican Party, as identified by the voting record, public statements and/or signed questionnaire of the candidate, shall not be eligible for financial support and endorsement by the Greenville County Republican Party.

The resolution was approved during the regularly scheduled meeting of the Executive Committee in open session on August 2nd, 2010.
