WASHINGTON -- Reverend Eve Nunez, President of the National Latina/Latino Commission (NLLC), is praising President Trump's nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh for Justice of the Supreme Court. Rev. Nunez and Latino pastoral leaders are united in their support of President Trump's nomination.
Rev. Nunez said: "We're thrilled with President Trump's nomination. Judge Kavanaugh is a Christian who's devoted his life of faith to public service, gives his time to advance religious liberty, and to serve God and his neighbor. As we read in Proverbs 31:8-9, we must speak up for those who don't have a voice and judge fairly. Judge Kavanaugh is one of the brightest legal minds in our country, the best of the best, who builds consensus and decides cases based on the law, not personal policy preferences."
Judge Kavanaugh will:
- defend the rights of Americans to practice their faith without government intrusion
- judge fairly as the scripture in Proverbs 31:9 says, "Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy"
- ensure the rule of law, administering justice fairly, by protecting our constitutional rights and liberties
- Judge Kavanaugh called D.C. Metro's ban on religious advertising, including Christmas ads, "pure discrimination" and "odious" to the First Amendment
- upholds conscience rights, such as in Priests for Life v. HHS, Judge Kavanaugh voted to block the Obama Administration from forcing religious entities to violate their consciences and be complicit in providing contraceptive and abortifacient coverage to their employees. He argued that it is "crystal clear" that "when the government forces someone to take an action contrary to his or her sincere religious belief...the government has substantially burdened the individual's exercise of religion."
Rev. Nunez continues: "The Supreme Court endorsed Judge Kavanaugh's opinions more than a dozen times, and he received overwhelming support for his U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C Circuit. His fearless commitment to religious freedom is exactly why we need Judge Kavanaugh on the bench. I urge everyone to call your senators and tell them to confirm Judge Kavanaugh."

About the NLLC
The National Latina/Latino Commission (NLLC), founded in 1984 by Rev. Eve Nunez, is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting faith-based initiatives. Rev.
