Your Best?
- By Ray Simmons
In the early 1980s, while I was still employed by the Federal Government, I began looking pretty closely at what was happening politically. I noticed the job I once had was not being run as efficiently and that the entire organization was no longer operating as a political neutral. The goal had ceased to consider the cost and quality of product a priority. Political correctness became more important at the managerial levels. Looking around I found this approach was weaving its merry way throughout federal (and state) bureaucracies. This might be considered the period that “common sense” was finally being evicted from Washington and governmental agencies. Looking at the Washington scene these days we find that eviction was highly successful, not a drop of “common sense” remains there. At least it didn’t until President Trump was elected and immediately started upsetting their applecart.
Are We Listening?
- By Ray Simmons
Because of my love for this country and what it has meant to me I desperately desire to see it preserved for those who will come after me. Because of this, these columns often deal with events and trends I see that are moving to destroy the America that I have known and replace it with an America that is subservient to some global authority with a philosophy of government that is 180 degrees from that of our Founding Fathers. In so doing I sometimes lose sight of the title under which these articles are presented: From a Christian Perspective.
Most of the time when I am looking for a topic to discuss I will ask God to provide something that will honor Him and our Lord Jesus. Most of the time He will provide one within a day or two. Last evening, as I was finishing my prayers, I asked for a topic. Immediately the thought “look to my Word” came to mind. This morning I opened the Scriptures to Jeremiah 18. You be the judge.

Obama's Fault?
- By Ray Simmons
There seems to be a great tendency among conservatives to blame our current state of affairs on President Obama. While I agree that Obama has done much to weaken our nation financially and militarily since taking office, has vastly increased the powers of the Executive Branch of government, and that his goal is the destruction of our Democratic Republic and its replacement with a socialist form of Dictatorship or Oligarchy, I cannot hold him totally responsible for where we find ourselves. I must place a considerable share of the blame upon myself and my fellow Christians. It is we who have failed to hold our government accountable for its actions and have allowed it to move away from the doctrines upon which it was founded.

Pushing The Wrong Buttons
- By Ray Simmons
I've been on sort of a hiatus because there is too much news in too many places heading in too many different directions and my head is telling me that pushing the wrong buttons can be worse than pushing no button at all. My observations are telling me that too many people are pushing the wrong buttons while hardly anyone seems to know what the right button is.
I guess I'm a bit old-fashioned but it seems to me that first cause should become first priority.

The "PR" Push Begins
- By Ray Simmons
In today's local newspaper there was an article extolling the benefits the health care bill will have for children. The reasoning behind the article was rather convoluted, actually talking about how the law's provision to make insurers accept children with pre-existing conditions would allow parents to move from job to job without fear of losing their child's health care insurance. This would provide the child a happier home life because their parents would be better satisfied and perhaps have a better income.
