Rep. Harry Cato, who was first elected to the South Carolina House to represent District 17 in 1990 and was elected Speaker Pro Tempore of the House in 2008, is facing two challengers in the June 8 Republican primary election. Cato has been the only candidate on the ballot for most of his 10 District 17 elections and has never been challenged in a Republican primary.
Indigenous missionaries to Peru and the Czeck Republic were guests at a recent meeting of the 16th Regiment, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camp 36 at the Phoenix Inn in Greenville. Alonzo Ramirez of Peru and Pavel Bartos from the Czech Republic are sponsored by Woodruff Road Presbyterian Church and were escorted by Bill Johnson, a member of the church and the SCV.
Those who are anxious to seek government solutions to all of our problems need to be reminded that what the government has power to give it also has the power to take away. In recent years, it has become quite routine for elected officials to use the taxpayers’ money to buy the votes of both taxpayers and those who pay no taxes. Elected officials and bureaucrats are also empowered to terrorize citizens by threats or actually taking away promised government support. This practice has reached epidemic proportions and is on the verge of destroying trust of citizens in their government, collapsing our economic system and destroying the republic.
Edward D. Sloan, Jr., and the South Carolina Public Interest Foundation petitioned the Court of Common Pleas in Greenville Friday, February 26, to prohibit Greenville County from “disbursement of funds from the Council District Expense Fund.”
The complaint for declaratory judgment and injunctive relief was filed just two working days prior to the Council’s scheduled meeting to receive advice from legal council regarding rule changes necessary to comply with the Feb. 8 ruling by Judge John C. Few that the “Council District Expense Fund portion of the 2006-2007 budget for Greenville County is declared to be an impermissible delegation of legislative authority, and thus to be illegal.”
Shortly after 6 a.m. on a rather cold Wednesday morning last month, forty-five American Legion Post 3 members left Greenville for a bus trip to Norfolk, VA.
The trip resulted from an eventful week that took place October 5-10, 2009. Greenville was chosen by the U.S. Navy Outreach as one of twenty-three cities in the United States for a group of U.S. Navy officers and sailors to visit and explain to citizens what the U.S. Navy is doing with regard to the “War On Terror,” as well as humanitarian projects around the world.
The late Harry G. Summers Jr., Colonel of Infantry, and distinguished faculty member of the Army War College, often called people’s attention to the fact that considerable differences in the treatment of the Vietnam War can be seen in the literature published in academia and that published by the veterans who fought it. He also pointed out that even among the combat veterans there are differences according to the time frame of their involvement and the role they played.
Spc Geoffrey A. Whitsitt, United States Army, Age 21 of Taylors, S.C., was Killed in Action when his vehicle was damaged by an improvised explosive device near Combat Outpost McClain in central Afghanistan’s Logar Province south of Kabul, on January 13, 2010.
He was assigned to the 118th Military Police Company (Airborne), 503rd Military Police Battalion (Airborne), 16th Military Police Brigade (Airborne) with home base at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.
Cultural Marxism is systematically stamping out vestiges of Western Civilization and the Free Enterprise System that has made the United States of America the envy of the world and provided the highest standard of living known to mankind for more than two centuries. The pace of destruction has accelerated in recent months and citizens are becoming fearful of losing their God-given freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.
Many Americans view the economic chaos occurring in the United States in the past year since the inauguration of President Obama to result from inexperience or incompetence. Leftists and some African-American leaders view the mounting economic problems as resulting from lack of cooperation by Republicans and criticism by Conservatives. Tragically, those described above are victims of Cultural Marxism and fail to recognize that they have been duped. They are duped by those who know what they are doing and are following a carefully implemented plan.
Several years ago Russ Cassell of WORD/WYRD radio directed my attention to chemtrails. Then, around two years ago, I inadvertently began what was to become a research project about the history of the Bavarian Illuminati, as represented in Canadian Navy Commander William Guy Carr’s 1954 and 1958 book, Pawns in the Game. With regard to the New World Order, as announced by
the erection of the Georgia Guidestones in March 1980, chemtrails have been noted since 1997 over many parts of the world. “Sustainable development” is the key phrase, from the Greenville County Council’s apparent efforts to implement the UN Agenda 21 to the far-fetched idea of worldwide “population reduction.” The latter is where chemtrails and HAARP may come into play.
The South Carolina Association of Taxpayers (SCAT), “The voice of the taxpayer in South Carolina,” held its 14th Annual Legislative Luncheon at the Capital City Club in Columbia Wednesday, February 17th.
Several candidates for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General and members of the legislature were present and spoke briefly during the annual event.
SCAT President Don Weaver introduced leaders of citizen taxpayer groups from across the Palmetto State attending the Luncheon.
The $787 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus package passed last year pushed the annual fiscal deficit to $1.89 trillion, almost doubling the last Bush deficit of $1.02 trillion. Not that Bush has anything to brag about, the largest deficit in the Clinton years was $347 billion, and way back in the Nixon years the highest annual deficit was only $31 billion. More ominously, it looks like President Obama will chalk up another $1.8 trillion deficit this year. Our national debt is already $12.5 trillion. Yet the President is proposing healthcare, immigration, environmental, and education legislation that could send federal, state, and local government spending out of sight.
Rep. Gresham Barrett, state Sen. David Thomas and attorney Allen Wilson spoke to the Upstate Republican Women at their monthly meeting, Feb. 15, at the Poinsett Club. Suzette Jordan is president.
Bill Connor, a candidate for lieutenant governor, visited the club to meet members and guests. For more information, visit Connor’s web site at www.voteconnor.com.
Gresham Barrett, candidate for governor Rep. Barrett, a candidate for governor, said the June primary is not going to be a popularity contest, but it is going to be about who has a definitive plan for South Carolina.
The announced death of Alexander “Al” Haig brought back many memories of a man who spent six decades of his life in service to his country. Haig was born in a suburb of Philadelphia, Dec. 2, 1924. As a boy he dreamed of a military career, received an appointment to the US Military Academy and graduated from West Point with the class of 1947. He served in combat in both Korea and Vietnam. As an Army Colonel he became a military advisor to Henry Kissinger in the Nixon Administration. President Nixon promoted Haig from 2 to 4 star general, breaking tradition and passing over 240 more senior officers. He served as Chief of Staff for Nixon during the Watergate Hearings and became the Supreme Allied Commander of NATO forces under President Ford. He resigned from that position when President Carter created the Iranian disaster and was later appointed Secretary of State by President Reagan. He resigned due to bickering within the Reagan Cabinet. George Shultz, his successor at State described Haig as “a patriot’s patriot. No matter how you sliced him, it came out red, white and blue.”
Most people do not know that chloramine is the tap water disinfectant used in Greenville by Greenville Water System and in Greer by Greer Commission of Public Works. Chloramine is a combination of bleach and ammonia - two cleaners that you are told to never combine when cleaning.
My son and I have experienced burning, red, itchy skin rashes that no doctor could treat and digestive symptoms including nausea, horrible abdominal cramps, and irritable bowel symptoms. I figured out it was the water after going to chloramine.org which tells symptoms that others are having and shows example skin rashes before and after using chloraminated water. I learned that about 1,000 people in an organization called Citizens Concerned About Chloramine (CCAC) were able to prove cause and effect with chloramine. They are dramatically better after avoiding chloramine, but this takes a lot of work.
The Senate’s decisive defeat of confirmation of radical labor lawyer Craig Becker is the first tangible result of the Massachusetts Miracle, which made Scott Brown the 41st Republican in the U.S. Senate. Two red-state Democrats also voted not to proceed toward a vote on President Obama’s nomination of Becker to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
Becker is a top lawyer for the Service Employees International Union, which spent $60 million to elect Obama. SEIU’s boss, Andy Stern, was the most frequent visitor to Obama’s White House last year.
As candidates come forward and election fever grips the people there are many questions about the Tea Party activities and how they might serve to shift the party powers in the Washington arena. Allegations run rampant about problems within the Tea Party movement. Are Republicans trying to take it over? Is it being infiltrated by so-called Progressives? Is it too representative of the fringe elements of our political system? Is it in danger of becoming a third party spoiler that could split the conservative votes and allow the Democrats to continue their power monopoly?
“Johnny, give your toy to your sister. You need to learn to share.”
“No, Annie, I don’t feel like taking you to the party tonight. It’s time you learn to give up your own desires once in a while.”
“We shouldn’t complain when our high taxes go to support the homeless. The Bible says we should sacrifice to help others.”
All three of these statements have something in common. Do you know what it is?
All three have a faulty understanding of the meaning of sacrifice. The first sentence sounds pretty innocuous and I’ve often heard it said to toddlers. The second statement is a little more problematic and you may have heard parents of teenagers say this. The third statement shows the full picture of misunderstanding biblical sacrifice.
This week’s feature group is The Chuck Wagon Gang. As you recall, this group began in the 30’s and traveled all over the country and recorded for over 40 years with Columbia Records. They sold more than 37 million records, which many of the secular artists have not attained. They appeared in Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, Grand Ole Opry and the Grand Ole Gospel Reunion. They are Gospel Music Hall of Fame members and are included in the Smithsonian Institution’s classic American recordings. The group left the road after the death of Roy Carter in 1997.
Rosemary and Charlie Reed celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at the home of their daughter, Dianne Dennis, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The celebration was attended by family and friends.
An earlier celebration took place on June 27, 2009, at the home of their daughter, Charlene Cox, of Taylors, South Carolina. This surprise party was given by their daughters and their eight grandchildren (Malaine and Andy Kantra and daughter Grace,
On February 8, 2010, Circuit Judge John C. Few signed a court order ruling that the Greenville County “Council District Expense Fund” violates the prohibition against delegating legislative authority in South Carolina Law, and that the “Council District Expense Fund” portion of the 2006-2007 budget for Greenville County is declared to be illegal.”
Dr. David Gallamore, pastor of Rock Springs Baptist Church, invited pastors and business leaders of all denominations in Pickens County for a luncheon to welcome Wisdom In Living Life Ministry. The event gave the opportunity for Winn Freeman, Founder and CEO, to present them the facts about addiction; the epidemic destroying families and plaguing our community. The lunch was catered by Ann’s Cakes and Catering, along with a group of volunteers from Rock Springs Baptist Church who provided desserts to the crowd as they watched the DVD. It presented a dramatic depiction of firsthand accounts from former drug addicts; who went through transformation when they became students at Wisdom In Living Life Ministry.
For the third time in two weeks, a public meeting was held to clarify misinformation regarding the cooperative agreement between the Greenville County Republican Party and the Upcountry Conservative Coalition that includes several Tea Party groups and others, some of whom show open hostility toward the Republican Party.
A news conference was called for 11 a.m. Friday, February 12 at Tommy’s Ham House in Greenville and announced by Roan A. Garcia-Quintana, Executive Director of “Americans Have Had Enough,” and a member of the Upcountry Conservative Coalition.
Recently my wife Marlene and I attended the Eighth Annual Abbeville Scholar’s Conference at the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston, South Carolina. The Abbeville Institute is the brain child of respected philosopher Donald Livingston of Emory University. The conference addressed current political and social issues, which have not been discussed in 144 years. The principles of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison of interposition and state nullification have again resurfaced as solutions to our current political crises emanating from an out-of-control corrupt Federal Government. These political abuses by the Federal Government are nothing new and frequently laws are passed which are in direct defiance of the U.S. Constitution.
After more than 15 years of trying to warn Americans about the dangers of Sustainable Development, finally, many in the freedom movement are beginning to understand that it is the root of most of the issues we are fighting today. But it is a vast, complicated issue that is difficult to comprehend - even for those of us who have been studying it for so long. It is critical that all freedom-loving Americans grasp the true destructive force of evil that is Sustainable Development.
With little more than a year in office, President Obama and his overwhelming Democratic majority in Congress have managed to seriously undermine the economy by implementing inflationary government spending programs that actually strangle long-term job creation, threaten devaluation of the dollar, and risk the enormous wealth-destroying pain of hyperinflation. Because his policies are based on economic theories that do not pass the common sense test and have proved failures in Europe, Japan, and past American administrations, we can expect things to get worse unless the people’s outrage puts out the lights of the Obama administration in November 2010 and 2012.
The “sleeping giant” has awakened and has stated its purpose as “taking America back” from the special interest groups and politicians that are moving the nation away from a sovereign republic governed by elected representatives of the people guided by the original intent of the Constitution of the United States.
The Tea Party movement has a unique opportunity during this election year to use its energy to take back control of American institutions that should be serving the people and are now serving the special interests of the central government. Tea Party activists are stepping forward to become candidates for public office and are supporting candidates and incumbents who have a record of service consistent with the provisions of the Constitution.
Leaders of the Upstate Coalition of Conservative Organizations, a group that encompasses many Tea Party and Liberty movement activists, held a joint news conference with county and state GOP leaders at the Greenville County Republican Headquarters Monday morning to extend an agreement reached in Greenville to the state level.
The groups announced a cooperative agreement aimed at having the groups work together on mutual goals. The four areas of general agreement include:
C-SPAN carried Sarah Palin’s address before the National Tea Party Convention in Nashville live to audiences around the world. The former Alaska Governor and Republican Vice Presidential candidate was given a rousing welcome by an audience of 1,100 in the Gaylord Opryland Hotel ballroom.
It was reported that as many as 120 media outlets from at least 8 nations covered the first event of its kind.
“I’m a big supporter of this movement and America is ready for another revolution,” Palin told about 600 well-mannered convention attendees and another 500 or more cheering fans added for the Palin appearance.
There are many people who say that our only serious immigration problem is that there are 12 million immigrants in the country who are technically illegal. These people tend to believe that the only problem with 500,000 illegal immigrants per year is that they are, in liberal-speak, “undocumented.” They believe that everything would be fine if legal immigration were made easier and employers could have more legal guest-workers. The problem with this is that our legal immigration levels are also unprecedented. Legal immigration is now averaging about 1.0 million per year. Previous to 1987, it averaged only 300,000 per year, and the rate of illegal immigration was much lower. According to Harvard labor economist, George Borjas, himself a Cuban immigrant, a total immigration level of about 500,000 per year is the maximum that will not hurt native-born Americans and their families.
Readers of this publication know that most Sustainable Development policy has not come directly from laws passed in Congress. Rather it has been invoked through international treaties, Executive Orders, grant offerings and behind-the-scene “comprehensive plans” in local communities. Henry Lamb of Sovereignty International in a recent DeWeese Report states that “that’s about to change.”
Over the years as I have traveled to many states and driven thousands of miles, I have visited so many interesting sites that I have even seen fit to pay a second and even a third visit to some of them – places such as the battlefields of Shiloh and Spotsylvania Courthouse.
In the last several travel articles I have been recounting a trip I took this past August to southern Tennessee and southeastern Missouri. As I began heading back toward South Carolina I decided to revisit a few places that I first visited 12 years earlier, on a trip I took in 1997.
One of those places was the small town of Cairo (pronounced Kay-ro), Illinois, which is located at the southernmost tip of the long state of Illinois.
