The Great Toilet Paper Scare of 2020 has come to end, but don't breathe a sigh of relief just yet. The Spring Meat Stampede is here.

At my local Costco in Colorado Springs on Monday, fresh chicken breast was nowhere to be found. Nationwide, bacon prices doubled. Wholesale pork prices for ham, ribs and loins rose between 12% and 32% over the last seven days. COVID-19 outbreaks among the nation's major meat processing plants have shut down nearly 20% of the country's fresh pork production.

For that appears to be where the GOP wishes to lead us.

According to Politico, a 57-page memo from Mitch McConnell's senatorial committee instructs GOP candidates to blame the coronavirus pandemic on China, commit to stand up to China, end U.S. dependence on Chinese manufacturing and tell voters "my opponent is soft on China."

Eric Liddell (1902-1945) - Christian Missionary - God's "Gold Medalist."

Some people seem “born to run”.  I was never one of that number, but some men and women make it look easy; their Creator apparently blessed them with “swift genes”.  One of these people who loved to run was a Scotsman named Eric Liddell (1902-1945).   God blessed Eric with a love for running that I never had, to such an extent that he was awarded a Gold Medal in the 1924 Paris Olympics for winning the “400 Meter” race, an event in which he had been given almost no chance of medaling, for his true specialty was the “100 Meter” race, from which Liddell had previously withdrawn.  Why would a world-class runner withdraw from an event that he was favored to win?  Therein lies the story of this special man, the future missionary who seemed to have “wings on his feet”, and who left the world of sports to serve his LORD and Savior in China.

The study of the causes and conduct of the “Civil War” and the Reconstruction era that followed from 1865 to 1877 is still governed by the partisan myths of the Union victors and modern political correctness. But “Truth crushed to the earth” (William Cullen Bryant) is still the truth and “shall rise again.”

The more-and-more I see of what’s happening in our nation and what has already happened around the globe, the more convinced I become that we are watching Biblical prophecy being fulfilled. Seeing the recent impeachment fracas reminded me of a passage in Ecclesiastes 10:2, “A wise man’s heart inclines him to the right, but a fool’s heart’s to the left.” Even back then God knew the “left” would be in opposition to His people. Over two thousand years ago He wrote that the Israeli people, after being scattered among the nations, would be returned as a nation in the later days.

John Jacob Astor, the richest man on board the Titanic, famously gave up a seat in the final lifeboat when he saw two young children still on the ship's deck. "Women and children first" was the order from the ship's captain, and the final numbers show just how much the men on board -- even the rich and powerful -- adhered to that call. Women on the Titanic had a 75% survival rate, compared with just 17% for men. Besides some crazed radical feminists, most of us view the chivalry displayed on that sinking ship with a sense of awe and admiration. Hard to imagine many California tech billionaires behaving today the way Astor did the night he died.
