Maybe there's a small glimmer of hope for the Left Coast after all. First, San Francisco voters recalled George Soros-funded district attorney and crime-enabler Chesa Boudin. Now, even liberal Oregonians have kicked an East Coast media elitist to the curb and slapped "return to sender" on the carefully crafted package of Nicholas Kristof's self-serving phony baloney.

Last October, the 63-year-old Kristof left his prestigious perch at The New York Times after nearly four decades to run for governor in the Beaver State, where he lived on a Yamhill farm from age 12 through high school graduation, a long, long, time ago. By February, his four-month fantasy stint as a Pacific Northwest political savior had come to a humiliating end when both state officials and the Supreme Court called bull on his preposterous claim of state residency. Last week, New York Nicky and the Times announced he was leaving Yamhill (or as I call it, Shamhill) and going back home -- his real home -- safely enveloped in the Grey Lady's bubble, protected from truth and accountability.

The January 6 Committee intends to use the 14th Amendment to block former President Trump from running again in 2024.   

The  Fourteenth Amendment consists of five sections. The first clause of Section 1 defines who is a citizen:

“All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

This overturned the Dred Scott Supreme Court decision of 1857, which based on previous precedents, denied citizenship to blacks.

"Left Wing Extremists" believe in total government power and control. "Right Wing Extremists" believe in anarchy or no government. Both are dangerous to freedom. "Middle-of-the-Roaders" believe in limited government power controlled by the "chains of the Constitution." Got it?

Confusion reigns supreme in the puzzling and sometimes rancorous discussions of who or what is a “right winger” and a “left winger” in the realm of modern and often contentious and deliberately misleading American political debate.  Most of us have been programmed for decades by the liberal “mainstream” (left-wing, fake news) media (most newspapers, ALL TV network news, talking “heads” on MOST cable news shows, etc.) to accept their incorrect descriptions that communists and socialists are “left-wing”, and fascists and Nazis and white supremacists are “right-wing”.  Americans are often dismayed when they discover that what they’ve been told is truth by those they trusted is a semantic and political deception and an outright factual LIE!

For Graeme Moore, the city of Columbia’s proposal to effectively ban short-term rentals in residential areas is personal to him.

Moore, who operates a Columbia real estate firm, says he’s watching the debate closely because he owns a short-term rental house next to his Columbia home.

“A lot of people do this for primary income,” Moore told The Nerve when contacted recently. “That’s not why we do it necessarily, but it helps pay for the house.”

Senator Schumer Introduces Marijuana Legalization Bill

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) introduced a bill to legalize marijuana this week. The Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act is being advertised as a simple bill- one that loosens federal regulation of the Schedule I controlled substance. The nearly 300-page bill tells a different story and one that ignores the dangerous impacts of legalization.

Marijuana proponents seem to believe that a good trade-off for legalization is high taxation of the crop. Sen. Schumer’s marijuana bill implements a tax schedule that eventually reaches 25 percent of each cannabis product. However, states that have implemented this policy have seen an increase of illegal use instead of the income they expected. After six years of California’s action to legalize recreational marijuana and impose high taxes, up to three quarters of current sales are from unregistered dealers. Even Oregon’s marijuana market is made up of 70% of illegal sales. Legal dealers simply cannot compete with the black market.

With South Carolina’s tourism season in full swing, many summer visitors are looking for short-term rentals through popular sites such as Airbnb and Vrbo.

As of May, there were 41,715 Airbnb or Vrbo available rentals in South Carolina, a 17% increase over the previous year and a 27% jump from May 2019, according to information provided to The Nerve by AirDNA, which tracks short-term rentals worldwide.

A central issue was whether slavery would be permitted in new territories entering the union.
