What Made America Great IV
- By Ray Simmons
Writing these articles has revealed to me how much I don’t know about our early history. I’m having fun finding out about it. This one will talk a little about our Constitution and take a look at our colonial religious activities. The Constitutional Convention convened on May 25, 1778 and was signed on September 17, 1778, nearly four months of meetings, proposals, objections and discussions. The first State to ratify it was Delaware on December 7, 1787. On June 21, 1788 New Hampshire became the 9thState to ratify and the Constitution was activated. On May 19, 1790 Rhode Island became the 13th State to Ratify. The Bill of Rights was ratified 12/15/1791.

Contra Self-righteous Virtue-signaling - Part 1 of a series
The first Bishop of Ephesus, Timothy, had encountered some controversy in his young church, because among its members were both masters and slaves. Evidently, someone in the church was using the issue to stir up enmity, perhaps for some personal or political advantage. In a letter to his protégé, the Apostle Paul writes with divinely inspired authority addressing the issue:

A Math Lesson For Politicians!
- By W.H. Lamb
A long time ago, before there even was a United States of America, we had a lot of angry folks living in what were then British Colonies. One of them came up with a “catchy” slogan, and a lot of the other angry people thought that it made a lot of sense. Eventually they got so perturbed that they revolted against the King and his political cronies, and established their own new country—the U.S.A. You recall James Otis’ “slogan” that set them off, I’m sure: “TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION IS TYRANNY”! Indeed it was.

What Made America Great III
- By Ray Simmons
I don’t think most Americans realize that the Declaration of Independence is a separate document created before the Constitution but is considered, in a sense, to be part of the Constitution, to be its basis. The two documents were not signed by the same people, but both were signed by individuals representing all thirteen colonies and there is some overlap. The Declaration has been said to be the soul of the Constitution and to be the basis for our separation from British Law to natural law, which gives to man freedoms of Life, Liberty and Property, which government cannot take away.

What Made America Great II
- By Ray Simmons
A friend read the first article I wrote on this topic and commented he hoped I would make it a series. I think I might give it a shot because many Americans have no idea of how our greatness was made possible, and why it is now being denigrated… especially those we call millennials. Most readers will probably already have identified me as a senior citizen. I won’t tell you just how senior I am but the automobile had already been invented when I arrived. Nobody on our block owned one. You will have to forgive me if I sometimes seem to be repeating myself. Often that is the only way to clarify some new information. Many books have been written covering our topic and I will be referencing some of them. I will do my best to identify them with footnotes if not in the text itself. At this early point I offer this quote from W. Cleon Skousen’s “The Making of America.”

‘Our Country Should Be More Fearful of White Man’: Ilhan Omar’s Past Comments Ammunition in ‘Political Food Fight’ with Trump
- By David Brody
President Donald Trump and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) exchanged more harsh rhetoric Tuesday in a fight that just will not die down.
President Trump is not backing down and clearly, neither are the so-called "squad." No, this is a battle to the political death.
Racism and politics – not a day goes by without the toxic subject making an appearance.

The Development of Union Total War Policy

The Ravage of Athens, Alabama
Before Major General John Pope was summoned by President Lincoln to command a combination of reorganized forces called “the Army of Virginia,” in June of 1862, he had distinguished himself as a ruthless opponent of Confederate partisans in Missouri and as an aggressive commander in Mississippi. He encouraged his troops to plunder civilian food sources, burn homes in any area of Confederate resistance, hang civilians suspected of aiding Confederate forces, and shoot civilians in reprisal for Confederate guerilla attacks. He continued his severe philosophy of war in Virginia, drawing the resolute enmity of Confederate Generals Lee and Jackson. During Pope’s rise to fame and favor with Lincoln, he received much praise in the Northern press, until his ignominious defeat in September 1862 at the hands of Jackson and Longstreet at Second Manassas.
