Greenville MOAA Hosts SC Council of Chapters Conference at Hyatt

The Greenville Chapter, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) hosted the third Biennial South Carolina Council of Chapters 2013 Conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, October 6-9.
MOAA has eleven chapters in the South Carolina Council of Chapters. Col. Dale Ellenburg is president, CWO2 Michael Gonzales is Second Vice President, Col. David Lobb is VP for Legislative Affairs, Col. Edward J. Burns, III is Secretary and 1st Lt. Pam Durham is Treasurer.
Col. William Koehler is president of the host Greenville Chapter.
The colors were posted by American Legion Post 3 Color Guard, under the direction of Color Guard Commander Chuck Rouse.
It was appropriate that a representative of the Wounded Warrior Project was first speaker at the event.

One of the attendees Saturday the 28th at an all-day training session said, “ Now I see what to do and its not all that hard.” She is one of the 14 that have joined the new Advocacy Center sponsored by the Greenville Tea Party.
“South Carolina lags behind her neighboring states on important factors that make life better. What is the problem?” asks Don Rogers, who along with Bill McShea, are heading up the new effort to change specific laws in the state. “Many of our state laws make us less productive, less educated, less healthy, less safe, and less free. Laws are made in Committees; we the people need to be there free-of charge in reserve VIP seats” Rogers declared.

Defense Department documents, obtained by Judicial Watch through a Freedom of Information Act request, purporting to train U.S. soldiers and sailors label the Founding Fathers of the United States as “extremists” and claim that “participation in extremism is inconsistent with the duties of military service.”
The documents, compiled from a January 2013 lecture on “Extremism” by the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute, claim:
In U.S. history, there are many examples of extremist ideologies and movements. The colonists who sought to free themselves from British rule and the Confederate states who sought to secede from the Northern states are just two examples.
Royal Lao Airborne Veterans Banquet

The 11th Annual Royal Lao Airborne Banquet was held September 28, 2013, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Greenville. The Banquet was hosted by Major General Khambang Sibounheuang, who resides in Tennessee and Brigadier General Amos Hykes from Greenville. Members traveled in from all over the US and Canada. Not only was it an opportunity to rekindle old friendships but to remember some of the events which occurred in Laos during the Vietnam War.
The Colors were presented by members of American Legion Post # 3, who served during the Vietnam War. The color guard also carried the Flag of Laos and the Royal Lao Airborne Flag.
Snow Campaign Chapter, NSDAR, Honors Constitution Day

Snow Campaign Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, held a ceremony at Simpsonville First Baptist Church Chapel on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, to commemorate the 226th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America. A piano prelude of patriotic music was presented by Mr. Randy Kirby. At 4:00 p.m. the church bells rang, to participate in the ringing of the bells across America. Every year on September 17th, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time, the DAR has "Bells Ringing Across America" to commemorate the founders' signing of the Constitution. All churches and communities are encouraged to ring their bells. Mrs. Lena Horton, Past State Chair DAR Constitution Week, Past District 1 Director, and Past Regent of Snow Campaign Chapter, welcomed everyone. The colors were presented by the Mauldin High School JROTC Color Guard.

Joseph Evan Davis Chapter #907, Children of the Confederacy, met on Saturday, September 21, 2013. Miss Trinity Grace Bingham received her membership certificate and was welcomed into the Chapter with an ice cream sundae celebration following the meeting. The new officers for 2013-2014 were installed by Mrs. Carol Leake, President of Oliver Thompson UDC Chapter No. 1850 in Fountain Inn, SC, Past Third Vice President of the SC Division UDC and Past SC Division Director of the Children of the Confederacy.
