“Are these the shadows of the things that will be, or are they shadows of things that may be, only?... Men’s courses will foreshadow certain ends, to which, if persevered in, they must lead. But if the courses be departed from, the ends will change….Say it is thus with what you show me.”
THE SHADOWS OF “WHAT WILL BE”
So said Ebenezer Scrooge to the “Spirit of Christmas Future”, in Charles Dickens’ classic 1843 novel, “A Christmas Carol”, one of his most popular and enduring books, one that pierced the consciences of middle and upper class Victorian England, and forced them to confront how they treated the poor and overworked lower classes, and especially the children of those classes, in a country that changed the world in so many respects, but found it difficult to change how the people of England treated each other at a time when the “Chartist Movement”---a leftist/socialist/Marxist style “people’smovement”, probably organized by descendants of Adam Weishaupt’s Satanic “Order ofIlluminati and/or the French far leftist “Jacobin Movement”, raged throughout portions of Great Britain, and Christianity was still the prevalent religious and societal mandate among the proud middle and snobbish upper classes, at least on the surface.
Sadly, in this troubled present even the surface “veneer” of Christian religious belief has mostly been purged by indifference and socialist animosity from the country now called “The United Kingdom”, and once-Christian churches are almost empty on the Sabbath in the land that gave Magna Charta, the first forms of representative government, and Shakespeare to the world. Many former Christian churches have been taken over by the Satanic 7th Century Primitives, those violent followers of Islam, and the U.K., I fear, is well on its way to becoming a dangerous and Satan-controlled Moslem dominated nation, as is much of Europe! May our true God forgive slothful “Christians” for their spiritual neglect of their British nation and, indeed, the same must be said of our own U.S.A., for we are well down the same road! And both nations will have brought the tyranny of Islam onto themselves by the cowardly sloth and uncaring of “Christians” therein!
WHAT “SPIRITS” HAUNT AMERICANS OF TODAY?
Which brings us to the U.S.A. of our day—the country that was born from the spiritual and philosophical “seeds” planted by Great Britain, our “mother country”, the land that God has entrusted Americans to care for, the land that He gave to Christians to spread His Gospel in, “proclaiming Liberty” (eventually) to all of its inhabitants, the land that seems to be rapidly slipping away from a significant number of Americans because they either don’t care about the erosion of their freedoms, or they’ve been too brainwashed by people and/or institutions they respect and trust to know that they’re being duped.
A lot of words have been written in recent years concerning the supposedly “imminent return” of our LORD and Savior, Jesus the Messiah. Movies have been produced and many books written in the hope that all will have a chance to be saved, and that no one will be “left behind”. But I again ask the question that more than once in these pages I’ve asked: What if our LORD tarries for 100, 500, or 1000 more years, or longer? He could, you know, because Scripture informs us that with our LORD, “a thousand years are like one day”.
Have Christians seriously pondered that “what if” question? I have. As a Christian have you ever, in the depths of your soul, asked yourself what will the world be like for our descendants if our Savior, Jesus, does not return soon, as many Christian believers are confidant that He will? (Perhaps too confident, in the opinion of some believers, including myself).
God’s Word advises us to not conjecture on when our Savior, Jesus, will return, and to “occupy” until he does (Luke 19:13), whenever that may be. One may define “occupy” as only praying “ceaselessly” and witnessing to the unsaved and ignoring “the world” and our culture; or as only battling the forces of totalitarianism that seem to be slowly and inexorably enveloping us in this, our troubled and tormented present; or as I believe that Christians are counseled to do—change the people FIRST, and then “changed men and women” will, under God’s direction and inspiration, do what they can to “change our culture and the world”.
More succinctly, as Michael LaPierre said in his great book, A COVENANT--RESPONSIBLE CITIZENSHIP AND GODLY CONVERSATION (Pub. by High Bridge Books, 2019), “The Bible extends enormous responsibility in the sandbox of public policy, governance, and the corresponding decision making in each. At certain times, as much as we would like to run and hide from the decisions in the public arena, God tells Christians to LEAD. The Bible tells us much more than to simply identify with Christianity in politics. We must LIVE Christianity out loud and with the passion and vigor necessary to proclaim Christ and IMPACT the culture”.
To disagree with LaPierre’s totally accurate contentions is to acquiesce to the slow death of the free exercise of our faith and to an increasingly rapid loss of our historic constitutional freedoms! The “symptoms” of that “slow death” are all around us, but most Americans are oblivious to the dangers, having long since succumbed to those who “do their thinking” for them! Waking them out of their stupor is difficult and time consuming, but not impossible. But if the effort to do so on the part of those of us who are truly knowledgeable about the dangers lurking in the shadows of authoritarianism all around us isn’t expended, then nothing will change and most of our people will, like hypnotized lemmings, walk off the cliff into the chasm of collectivism, and as Ronald Reagan warned us back in 1964: “A thousand years of darkness”!
ARE WE LIVING IN “THE LAST DAYS”?
Can we, as Christians and People of Faith, and as concerned citizens and patriots, look at the events of our day and, assuming that they are “the shadows of the things that will be…”, as old Scrooge asked of the “spirit”, project a possible future? I believe we not only can, but we MUST. It may be perceived as presumptuous for anyone to claim to know the “history of our future”, for in truth only God knows what will unfold in future time with absolute certainty. However, those who have at least a modicum of familiarity with accurate history know that the lessons of the past have often been ignored by people of every time, right up to our present. For those who have learned from those “lessons” of the past, a possible future is not difficult to extrapolate.
If our LORD Jesus continues to tarry over His long-awaited return, and applying the sad and far from noble record of mankind to a possible future, it isn’t difficult to postulate that the “history” of that future has the potential to be dark and foreboding, violent and dangerous, especially if the 7th Century Primitives (Satanic Islam) continue their inexorable march toward societal domination of all Western nations, including the U.S.
Some Americans are convinced that “other” people groups and “other” secretive organizations of the ultra-rich and conspiratorially powerful are rapidly propelling events of our recent past and right up to today toward some “Gotterdammerung” of societal destruction, of the violent end of our Republic, where our fate and destiny as a nation of free people is threatened with oblivion. (Just read God’s Word about the events of “The Last Days” (in Matthew 24) to see just how frightening the “future” will be.)
Interestingly, the very FIRST mention of the “last days” that I can find in Scripture is NOT in the New Testament or in the Book of Revelation, but is in the FIRST Book of our Bible: Genesis. The Scripture reference, from the 1599 Geneva Bible, is Genesis 49:1, which reads: “Then Jacob called his sons, and said, ‘Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you what shall come to you in the last days”. I assume that in this context Jacob was referring to the ‘last days’ of the various Tribes of Israel, led by his sons, and what would befall them, because our LORD Jesus had not yet appeared among mankind in His physical, human manifestation as The Savior, and the New Testament, with its warnings about “The Last Days” before Jesus returns to set up His Kingdom on Earth, had not yet been written down as a warning for humanity.
IS JESUS THE MESSIAH ABOUT TO RETURN?
Some sincere Christians might dispute my projections of, and concern for, a future of mankind that may extend out for many centuries, contending as some do that “the Lord’s Return” is so imminent that it is foolish to concentrate on anything except getting the unsaved “saved”, praying constantly, and ignoring what happens in “the world”, including the U.S., since we as Christians are merely “pilgrims” passing through this brief life and should focus only on witnessing to the unsaved, and on our eternal existence with our LORD and Savior in Heaven, a Savior who will surely appear soon, probably in our own lifetimes.
As you may reasonably conclude, I DO NOT SHARE THIS VIEW OF OUR LORD’S ‘IMMINENT RETURN’. I remind you that some of our Savior’s own original Disciples awaited His return in THEIR lifetimes 2000 years ago, and that our ancient Christian brethren in the year 999 A.D. also confidently awaited Jesus’ return in the year 1000 A.D. These believers waited their entire lives, and we of the present are still waiting, for only our Creator knows His “time table”. And as Scripture reminds us, our Creator has only spent less than THREE of His “days” in preparing for our Savior’s return, so let us be “patient”.
WILL ORWELL’S FRIGHTENING PREDICTION BECOME MANKIND’S FUTURE?
The ominous “shadows of the things that may be” in mankind’s future generally, and in the future of Americans specifically, are increasingly looming over us, despite the efforts of President Trump and the “MAGA” Movement to turn our “ship of state” back onto its correct course that was originally set out for Americans by our Founders. Some conservatives and political pundits foresee a future that entails an almost endless downward spiral into some form of repressive authoritarian dystopianism, into what the late President Ronald Reagan foresaw would be “a thousand years of darkness” and tyranny—what the prescient George Orwell foresaw as “a boot stamping on a human face forever”. (Just review the history of the 20th century for multiple examples of ‘repressive socialism’ and the evil those philosophies inflicted upon suffering mankind—Nazi-ism--Fascism—Communism—Pol Potism—repressive monarchies—and unbiblical religious “hierarchies”---false religious doctrines--all perpetrated to keep humanity away from the true and simple worship of our Heavenly Creator.
Others, including myself, are becoming ever more concerned that a true civil war between groups of socialist-loving pseudo-Americans, and the remnants of Constitution-honoring historic Americans, may be on our near horizon, as horrible as I personally believe that would be. The enemies of constitutional liberty appear to be propelling us in the potentially disastrous direction of “civil war” which, in my opinion, could and probably would mark the end of our republic if all-out violence erupted among us, and would give those enemies virtually total control over the lives and the futures of any surviving citizenry should they emerge victorious!
Population would be greatly reduced by a modern “UNCIVIL” war, which is, of course, what the devils of the World Economic Forum (and its new Co-Director Larry Fink) undoubtedly desire, along with the Marxist United Nations in its endless quest for war and a collectivist “world government” AND a greatly reduced population!
Still others are certain that the United States has already entered the inescapable “event horizon” of the “black hole of tyranny”, when our historic Constitutional liberties begin to die from “a thousand cuts” rendered against them by those who we call “The Deep State” and their willing accomplices, the slimy “Swamp Dwellers”, and from which the ‘blood’ of freedom will slowly drain away, just as patriot Charlie Kirk’s life drained away—victims of one form or another of ghastly repression and collectivist tyranny descending permanently on this land.
Some true patriots believe that Americans have no choice now—it’s either a “civil war” fought against the Marxist/collectivist/globalists who have virtually seized control of “our” government over the past century, President Trump’s efforts to stop this to the contrary, notwithstanding; OR it’s an increasingly rapid surrender of our erstwhile liberties to our Marxist/progressive enemies, to the verminous Demoncrat Party and its socialist/Marxist allies, where those who survive the carnage and were on the “patriot” side will be executed or sent permanently to some “gulag”, never to be seen again.
Other patriots contemplate our present political semi-chaos through “rose colored glasses”, preferring to believe the “soothing syrup” promulgated by numbers of “in the know” pundits that President Trump and his allies (the military for the most part) have “everything under control” and it’s only a matter of a “short time” before the “Deep State” will be vanquished and all of its treasonous supporters will be arrested, tried for treason, and executed or sent to GITMO for life! Well, that would be a satisfying end to our national travails, I’ll admit! (I only hope and pray that these “wishful thinkers” are proven to be accurate! And soon!)
In my opinion, if our current “courses are persevered in”, one or another of these more ghastly outcomes will surely come to pass—an inevitable penalty for our denying the gruesome and painful lessons of history, and being too cowardly or too uncaring to band together with others of like mind and “change” those courses, just as our ancestors in liberty did back in 1775!
AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE FULL OF GOD’S GRACE LOOMS
Whatever the future holds for us as Americans, Christians, and patriots who love what America once was, it will surely still be a time full of the everlasting Grace of our Heavenly Father, who will always shed His love and protection on any remnants of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes, for even though we now see “through a glass, darkly”, we as Christians and People of Faith have the assurance that God is now, and always will be, in control of the affairs of men. Many “doubting Thomas’” deny this, but that’s what I believe.
What I am confident of is that, until the moment that God’s ‘trumpet’ sounds, and our LORD returns to gather up His flock, the battle between good and evil—between light and darkness—between man’s innate longing for freedom and the “Beast’s” desire to enslave—will still be raging. Until Jesus’ Second Coming, whenever that may be, soon or far off, I know that there will always be special men and women, just as there are today, who will battle against the DEMONS OF COLLECTIVISM who have tyrannized our species since Satan told our first parents, in God’s Beautiful Garden, that they, too, could be ‘just like God’ if they’d only listen to and believe him. Sadly, some of their descendants are STILL listening to that ‘evil one’, to their eternal detriment; and even more sadly, and more than a bit ominously, our nation is full of them.
One of my favorite authors, John Chalfant, summed up our current dilemma in his book: AMERICA—A CALL TO GREATNESS (published 2003 by America—A Call to Greatness, Inc.), wherein he wrote:
“America’s invincible strength, her free enterprise economic system, the countless freedoms and blessings enjoyed by her…citizens were all products and benefits of the Founding Fathers’ love of and commitment to Jesus Christ….
“Today that passion and those treasures are being lost. Nearly everybody knows it and is experiencing it, but only a few understand what went wrong or what to do. The resulting vacuum is being filled by a satanic evil that is enslaving the mind of the American Christian and dragging it into the pit of confusion and increased vulnerability to Satan’s deceits and lies. Soon, as things are going, America’s citizens may themselves be reduced to political and physical bondage.”
Chalfant wrote these ominous words well over twenty years ago. The political and moral deterioration of today is infinitely worse than it was then—much, much worse. Is the sun “setting” on the dreams of our Founding Generation who sent a system of constitutional freedom to their descendants—to us? If the political and economic darkness beginning to settle over us means anything, and we as Christians and patriots allow it to continue, then the answer to that question is obvious! ISN’T IT?
