Memories of “Slavery Times”
- By Mike Scruggs
Two Invaluable Alabama Slave Narratives
From 1936 to 1938, during the Great Depression, the Roosevelt Administration through the Work Projects Administration and the Federal Writers Project, sponsored by the Library of Congress, collected about 2,300 interviews of former slaves. The purpose was to preserve the personal memories of what life was like for slaves before and during the Civil War. All of these are now available online and organized by state. The best and easiest source is the Gutenberg Project at Gutenberg.org under the title, Slave Narratives—Project Gutenberg.
I have quoted portions of several of the Mississippi Slave Narratives in my book, The Un-Civil War: Shattering the Historical Myths, in the chapter, “Slavery in Fact and Fiction.” The State volumes of Slave Narratives, along with Fogel and Engerman’s formidable academic study on the economics of Southern slavery published in 1974 as, Time on the Cross, are the two richest and most scholarly resources on what Southern Slavery was really like. Yet because they present a surprisingly benign historical account of Southern Slavery opposed to what is now fashionable, even hysterically obligatory, in academic, media, and political circles, they are unfortunately neglected, suppressed, or verboten.

The Ordeal of Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker – A Tale of Courage
- By W.H. Lamb
Above - Captain Eddie Rickenbacker (1890-1973) beside his "Spad" fighter, Fall of 1918. The fuselage insignia was the famous "Hat in the Ring" of the 94th AERO Squadron of which he was the leader. He became America's "Ace of Aces" with 26 German aircraft shot down, for which he was awarded 10 "Distinguished Service Crosses" and "The Medal of Honor."
(I’m indebted to the following two sources for the basics of this story of great courage and determination to survive, a story mostly unknown to Americans of today—but well known to me because Rickenbacker was one of the “heroes” of my youth, and from both of which I quote freely):
- An article titled: “World War 1: American Ace Eddie Rickenbacker”, from THOUGHTCO.COM, by Kennedy Hickman, March 19, 2018;
- An article titled: “Eddie Rickenbacker Adrift in the Pacific Ocean”, from DEFENSE MEDIA NETWORK.COM, by Dwight Jon Zimmerman, November 15, 2012.

John Brown Gordon and Cancel Culture
- By Mike Scruggs
Gallant Soldier and Advocate against Reconstruction Tyranny
Part 1 of 2. Political Background and the War, 1861-1865.
In the southeastern corner of the Georgia Capitol grounds in Atlanta stands an equestrian statue of Confederate Lt. General John Brown Gordon. His record as a Confederate officer was one of the most courageous, noble, and distinctly Christian in the Civil War. Gordon was also a distinguished governor of Georgia from 1886 to 1890. He had also distinguished himself as a U.S. Senator from 1873 to 1880 and again from 1891 to 1896. He was a conservative Democrat—Democrat and conservative were practically synonyms in those days—but enjoyed much bipartisan admiration and friendships in Congress. U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt admired him as a soldier and a statesman, saying,

These Are Some Of My Favorite Things
- By W.H. Lamb
I’ve written a couple of versions of this article over the years, and it always gave me a few chuckles to think about some of my “favorite things”. In this time of stress and demands by our ‘wanna-be” political masters for “societal change” (whether we like it or not), perhaps you’ll get a few much needed laughs to brighten your day, if only for a moment or two. Many of us recall, with lots of nostalgia and fondness, I’m sure, that great musical film, “The Sound of Music”, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. We saw it in Charlotte, N.C. for the very first time in 1966, and I confess we were delighted by the wonderful music and songs of the late Rodgers and Hammerstein (who are among my favorite modern song/music composers), and the interesting script, based only VERY LOOSLEY on the real history of the Von Trapp Family Singers of Austria, prior to WW11. The character of Maria, the young orphan novice who would “never become a nun”, was played by that great actress and singer, Julie Andrews, who is now 86 years old but still partially active, although I don’t believe that she sings any longer, her once magnificent FOUR OCTAVE voice damaged years ago by a botched surgery to remove nodules from her vocal cords.

Critical Race Theory is Destroying American Military Strength
- By Mike Scruggs
The Last Domino in the Neo-Marxist Subversion of America
Critical Race Theory (CRT) is social justice gone mad. Calling it a theory is highly deceptive. It is a Neo-Marxist toolset for destroying the social, moral, and cultural fabrics of civilization. It is a tool of division to weaken and confuse peoples and nations in order to destroy and enslave them. CRT already dominates much of academia, the media, huge corporate monopolies, and deep-state Federal bureaucracy. The final step needed for complete control of American culture and political power is CRT dominance in the military, which had always been a comparatively conservative bulwark of American traditions.

Do You Really Value Your Freedom And Independence? Well, Do You? A July 4th Message to Contemplate
- By W.H. Lamb
Their "Independence Day" celebrations will be gone with the wind if the Fascists who run the World Economic Forum and the Council of Foreign Relations have their way!
“Courage, then, my countrymen, our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind, an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty.” - Founding Father, Samuel Adams
It’s a truly sad commentary on this present time in our nation’s history that a sizeable portion of Americans are so ignorant of their own past that many of them not only have never heard of Samuel Adams (the patriot not the beer) or other of our Founders and have never read their words, but are totally unaware of the history of the time wherein the country they inhabit was born, from which country Americans declared their independence, and are uncertain as to the century in which those events occurred. Next week these same Americans will celebrate “July 4th—Independence Day”—virtually in the dark as to just what “Independence Day” really means to Americans alive today and, in a broader sense, what it meant to those who have gone before us and who sacrificed to bring about or keep that “Independence” of the U.S.—independence that many on this troubled planet aspire to come among us to enjoy—independence that sinister domestic and foreign enemies seek to take from us.

Reversal of Dobbs Case will Save Lives
- By Alveda King
Roe is no more! The Supreme Court justices' reversal of Roe v Wade with the critical Dobbs decision today is a victory for civil rights for the unborn. Sending the discussion of life vs abortion back to the states will help "we the people" on the state level grow to ensure that every unborn baby has the civil right to LIFE. Human dignity begins in the womb!
View Alveda Kings video addressing today's Dobbs decision here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/phq6y7w5irmkpcd/Video%20Jun%2013%2C%209%2056%2016%20AM.mov?dl=0
Today the new civil rights struggle of our time is for "womb equality" and the right to life for the unborn children who are aborted each year. This premise asserts that while we are not colorblind, we see and value the gifts of ethnic diversity. We see every human, born and pre-born, as created in the image and likeness of GOD. All pre-born children should first be given the chance to be born and live flourishing human lives.
