WHO Fails To Roll Out Pandemic Treaty

GENEVA – The World Health Organization (WHO) has admitted that it has been unable to roll out its controversial pandemic-related treaty that critics say would increase the organization’s powers in case of another international health crisis.
Critics in the United States had long warned the pandemic treaty would undermine U.S. sovereignty on important health decisions.
Worthy News already reported ahead of a WHO gathering that there was outrage about the plan within the recently elected new parliament of the Netherlands, which played a vital role in the treaty.
Legislator Fleur Agema of the Dutch anti-Islam Party for Freedom (PVV), which won parliamentary elections in November, was among the most against a pandemic treaty. “It looks like this treaty is a directive. Richer countries, such as the Netherlands, will have to give money to poorer nations to ensure their pandemic preparedness is in order, while we do not even have it in order ourselves,” she stressed.

THE HAGUE/BUDAPEST – Leaders of several countries have expressed “unease” and outrage over the International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor’s decision to seek the arrest of Israeli leaders and “Islamist terrorist organization” Hamas for atrocities.
Austria’s chancellor Karl Nehammer said he “fully” respects ICC independence but signaled unease with Israel’s arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
“We fully respect the independence of the ICC. The fact, however, that the leader of the terrorist organization Hamas, whose declared goal is the extinction of the State of Israel, is being mentioned at the same time as the democratically elected representatives of that very State is incomprehensible,” he wrote on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Footage Shows Gaza Terrorists Operating out of U.N. Compound

Terrorists in Rafah have been operating out of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency’s (UNRWA) central compound, according to video footage the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) released Tuesday. The footage contained “Hamas terrorists firing at civilians from within a UNRWA facility next to UN vehicles in Rafah,” described Foreign Minister Israel Katz, leading him to conclude, “UNRWA is an arm of the terrorist organization Hamas.”
There’s plenty of evidence pointing in that direction. “UNRWA is a U.N. agency that’s supposed to deliver aid,” said Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on “Washington Watch” Thursday. But “they hire local folks to do it, and they’ve hired people that are really Hamas sympathizers. … We found tunnels under UNRWA’s headquarters. Now you’ve got video evidence of the compound being used for military purposes.”

France’s President Emmanuel Macron has reiterated that he would consider sending French troops to help Ukraine fight back against Russia’s invasion if the Ukrainians requested it, the Kyiv Post reports. Macron first announced his highly controversial standpoint earlier this year.
In his recent remarks to The Economist, Macron said he was unwilling to rule out sending troops to Ukraine because Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has shown a willingness to take control of Ukraine by any means. “I’m not ruling anything out because we are facing someone who is not ruling anything out,” Macron said.

AMSTERDAM/AMSTELVEEN —While alerted Christians prayed for them as far away as Indonesia and other nations, the Dutch held a live televised commemoration for those killed in World War Two and other armed conflicts, without antisemitic incidents.
At 8 pm local time, there were two minutes of silence with several thousand people, including the royal family, standing quietly in pouring rain at Dam Square near the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, the capital.
There was concern that pro-Palestine activists, who targeted Jewish individuals, including students, a rabbi, an artist, and Holocaust survivors, may interrupt the ceremony.

JERUSALEM/DAMASCUS – Israel has warned that it will destroy Syrian President Bashar Assad’s “regime” if Syria gets involved in the Gaza war, diplomats said Monday.
“The Israelis clearly warned Assad that if Syria was used against them, they would destroy his regime,” a Western diplomatic official told media on condition of anonymity.
Recent months saw several strikes on Iranian targets in Syria, widely blamed on Israel.
The attacks culminated in an April 1 Israeli airstrike that leveled a building next to Tehran’s consulate in Damascus and killed seven commanders in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, two of them generals.
Where Is the Safe Space for Jews?

A recent trend on college campuses is to install “safe spaces,” places where students — or certain identity-group subsets of students — can go to feel safe. These safe spaces are exclusionary by design; they protect students by insulating them. In extreme cases, safe spaces have been deemed to cover entire campuses, leading to the exclusion or disinvitation of undesirable visitors.
This “safe space” trend has been rightly ridiculed for its tendency to protect college students’ feelings from exposure to opposing viewpoints. Such exposure serves to sharpen the mind and used to be college’s main virtue. Thus, protecting students from “harm” by sequestering them from intellectual diversity undermines the whole point of college education.
Speaker Johnson Tees up Israel Aid Vote as Urgency Grows

On Wednesday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) announced that the text for a bill giving aid to Israel would be released in the wake of Iran’s extraordinary attack on the Jewish state over the weekend. Experts and lawmakers say Israel needs the full backing of the U.S. as the existential threats against the only democracy in the Middle East continue to heighten.
The White House announced Tuesday that it would place new sanctions on the Iranian regime in response to its attack over the weekend that rained down over 300 missiles and drones on Israel, the first direct attack of its kind in decades. The sanctions will target Iran’s “missile and drone program as well as new sanctions against entities supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran’s Defense Ministry,” according to National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.

JERUSALEM/BUDAPEST (Worthy News)— Hungary’s recently elected President, Tamás Sulyok, has urged his nation to “respectfully and honestly” remember the victims of the Holocaust, also known as the Shoah, in which some 600,000 Hungarian Jews died.
He spoke at the 80th anniversary of the tragedy, remembered in Hungary as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, at a time of concerns about antisemitism.
Hungary, which was a close ally of Nazi Germany, should show “reflections on our past duties with an outlook on the present and the future,” he told Parliament on Tuesday.
“Taking responsibility for the past, including my personal history, I pay tribute to all victims of the Holocaust,” the president said.

JERUSALEM (Worthy News) – The ability of the Israeli military and its allies to shoot down 99 percent of hundreds of drones and missiles fired by Iran toward Israel was the culmination of years of U.S.-backed efforts in the region, officials said Monday.
After several false starts and minimal progress, there was progress towards breaking down political and technical barriers that thwarted military cooperation between Israel and the Sunni Arab governments.
But with Iran seen as threatening stability in the region, the effort gained momentum after the 2020 Abraham Accords brokered by the then President Donald J. Trump’s administration.
The Accords established formal ties between Israel, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, forming the basis for broader regional cooperation.
Taiwan Hit By Worst Quake In Decades; Several Killed, Hundreds Injured

HUALIEN, TAIWAN (Worthy News) – At least nine people were killed, 900 injured, and dozens of buildings damaged in Taiwan’s most powerful earthquake in 25 years, authorities said Wednesday.
However, strict building regulations and widespread public disaster awareness appeared to have staved off an even more deadly catastrophe despite a quake shaking the democratically ruled island.
The quake, given a magnitude of 7.2 by Taiwan’s earthquake monitoring agency and 7.4 by the United States, struck close to Hualien, a city of nearly 100,000 popular with tourists on Taiwan’s eastern coast.
Besides those killed and injured Wednesday, dozens of buildings were damaged, prompting tsunami warnings that extended to Japan and the Philippines before being lifted, according to officials.
