William Penn Morrow, Jr., 81, passed away Tuesday morning, February 3, 2015, following a brief illness.

A native of northern Greenville County, he was the son of the late William Penn Morrow, Sr. and Dora Barton Morrow.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Eleanor Connors Morrow.

Bill was a graduate of North Greenville College (University) and Furman University in the Class of 1954 and served on the Alumni Board in recent years. He was in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for most of his service.


He was employed by Liberty Life Insurance Company for 43 years, retiring in 1999 after serving as Senior Vice President and Chief Actuary for the last 20 years of his career. He was a member of the Society of Actuaries and assisted others interested in that profession.

Since 1988 he was an active member of Taylors First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and on many committees including Personnel, Foundation, and Counting. Prior to moving into Greenville, he was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Greer. At Pleasant Hill he served as a Deacon and was the church organist for 29 years.

Bill was a charter member and past president of the Blue Ridge Ruritan Club. He was also a member and past president of the Greenville Toastmasters Club, helping to organize a Toastmasters Club at Liberty Life Insurance Company.

In his retirement years, he was greatly involved in the Ollie Program at Furman University. He created and enjoyed teaching a popular course on "The History of the Dark Corner" of northern Greenville County.
Funeral services will be held in the sanctuary at Taylors First Baptist Church on Friday, February 6, 2015, at 2:30pm with the Reverend's Paul Jiminez and Jimmie Harley officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:15pm in the Gathering Space at the church. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Greer.

Memorials may be given to the William P. Morrow Scholarship Fund Furman University, North Greenville University or the Taylors First Baptist Church.
