The Bob Jones University Classic Players present William Shakespeare’s King Lear, in Rodeheaver Auditorium on Nov. 15-17, at 8 p.m. Directed by BJU theatre arts faculty member, David Schwingle, this production will be the ninth time BJU has mounted King Lear since 1934.

In the ancient kingdom of Britain, family, politics, and lies collide in one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays. The Tragedy of King Lear chronicles King Lear’s decision to divide his kingdom among his three daughters and the disaster that follows.

“This 400-year-old story is as relevant today as it’s ever been,” says Darren Lawson, BJU’s dean of the School of Fine Arts & Communication and producer for Classic Players. “You don’t want to miss this exciting portrayal of one of Shakespeare’s most well-known tragedies.”

The 27-member cast includes BJU faculty, staff, and students. Faculty include acting veteran Ron Pyle in the title role, Lonnie Polson as Kent, Darren Lawson as Gloucester, and Erin Naler as Goneril. Featured students include Gabrielle Prairie as Cordelia, Jack Sterner as Edgar, and Wilbur Mauk as Edmund.

A SMART performance, exclusively for secondary students and their sponsors, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m. Doors for general admission will open at 9:40 a.m. Tickets are required and may be purchased at the Programs & Productions box office for $7 for students.

For all other performances, ticket prices are $36-$45 for adults and full-time student tickets are $25. Tickets are available at bju.edu/lear tickets or by calling (864) 770-1372 Monday–Friday, noon to 5 p.m.
